Dyeing my grey skinnies black?
Question:

Dyeing my grey skinnies black?
I've never dyed anything except 100% cotton Tshirts before, so I have a few Qs about this...I plan on using Dylon washing machine stuff.
1. They're 98% cotton and 2% elastane, will the dye take?
2. I'm guessing the stitching will stay grey right?
3. Will one packet be enough? They're not actually denim, they're like the ones Ellieaness was asking about the other day - more like trousers than jeans, with a flat wash rather than fading etc and plain back pockets. The material is thinner than denim, so I'm hoping one packet will be OK?
Silly Qs I know but I'm clueless!

Hi,
I've used the dylon washing machine stuff once, and the things I dyed were supposed to be 100% cotton, but the stitching obviously wasn't as I ended up with three black tops with white stitching - i wasn't happy! Not sure about the elastane thing though, do they not have a helpline number on the pack you could try? Oh also, remember to put the empty washing machine on after you use it, coz otherwise your next wash could end up dyed!!

Yes, the stitching will usually remain the same colour. I dyed my grey NL skinnies black and I think they look awesome, even with the obvious stitching! They've probably been washed about 10-15 times since and they're beginning to fade a bit.

OK, another Q - is the dye strong enough to dye a cotton cushion cover as well if I stick one in with the jeans? Or should I just do the jeans on their own?

Answers:

Do you not have to weigh the items to see how many packets of dye you need?
The stitching will probably stay grey, as it's most likely to be polyester, which you can dye at home. I can't remember off the top of my head whether all purpose dye dyes elastane ... it will say on the packet/leaflet.
