Question:
Im nearly 30 :( And feeling ugly and frumpy
I still love clothes, and i still buy them, but i always feel as if nothing suits me. I think i might be buying clothes which are too 'young' for me.. which makes me end up wearing something from the back of my wardrobe, random things just thrown together. I don't even know what i am supposed to be wearing at this age  I used to feel good in my clothes. I generally shop in peacocks these days, and new look, although sometimes i go to topshop etc. This is because i find the clothes are just as good but cheaper, in the balue shps. But maybe this is adding to my general feeling of frumpiness?? Topshop etal used to be good value and i shopped there all the time when i was a teen-early twenties.
I feel im either mutton dressed as lamb or one of those old women i used to pity.. a frump. I do ave a lot of clothes, very varied, but as i said i can never find anything i feel comfy in.
Help! I need my groove back! i want to be a funky - not a frumpy, thirty year old (if thats allowed)
OK, well I don't know if I am funky (prob not ;) ) but I am 33. I am on a tight budget, so I tend to shop mainly in Primark or New Look.
What style of clothes do you like? Formal? More casual? What's your body shape?
I am pearshaped and size 12. I prefer casual clothes, and I work in an informal office. I am going for indigo fitted jeans, longline tops and cute cardis with ballet pumps for work. I aim to make these more interesting with accessories.
I find it's worth spending money on a good pair of trousers or jeans. I spend more money on bags as well (but that's just my fetish  ).
However, you can pick up great pieces which are fashionable and cheap in Primark. If you get fed up of them in a few months, it doesn't matter as you haven't spent a fortune.
I am struggling with my style myself, but there's some great advice on here and I would also recommend looking at people's Style Diaries (usually link in sig) to get some inspiration.

Sorry, am I misunderstanding, or are you 29 and saying you are too old to dress like a 'young' person?
If you are feeling that you are over the hill at 29 then I would say that that is probably why you feel that you look frumpy - because you appear to have the mindset of a middle aged housewife!
Not meaning to be rude, and I'm sure I sound it, but I can't believe that you feel that you are past it at approaching 30!
I was exactly the same when i was nearly 30, think it's a thing that lots of girls go through, i lost my style a bit because i was going through a period of thinking is this what i'm meant to be wearing at this age!......however, i've gone past that thinking now! i'm 31 & wear exactly what i like - i wear shorts, short skirts etc, but i wear them with leggings or opaques & i tend to go for a more funky look so never feel like i'm dressing too young, i've never been into a tarty/teeny bopper look anyway but still go for young clothes but wear them in different ways IYSWIM.
Why don't you have a look through magazines for inspiration & maybe get the odd key piece from TS & get your staple things from the cheaper places. I get most of my stuff from TS but when money is tight i go to primark/h&m/NL & then just maybe geta trendy scarf or something from TS to finish the look off.
I look at style diaries, what people are wearing on nights out etc & then customise what bits i like to suit the look i want to go for.
I think once you get past the big 3-0, you will get your groove back, i just found it a weird time as you're coming out of your 20's.
Not saying that 30 is in any way over any kind of hill (I'm 39), but I find that as I get older I need to spend a bit more on clothes and buy better quality stuff. If I bought all my clothes at shops like NL and Peacocks, I'd feel frumpy too - the best thing is to stock up on cheaper stuff (esp for basics) and then lift the whole look with some quality garments, good shoes and accessories. I buy a lot of my stuff at H&M and Topshop, but I spend more on shoes, bags and get some more expensive items from boutiques or slightly more expensive labels (e.g. at Selfridges, or the more expensive high street stores like Jigsaw/Whistles).
I also agree with Glitterball - age is a state of mind (and it's just a number anyway)! :D There is always a way of incorporating trends into your look without ending up looking like a wannabe-teenager.
