O/T ... Is this dodgy?
Question:

O/T ... Is this dodgy?
  Hi girls
I've just had a call from a guy asking me a few questions about my Marie Claire subscription , asking if i ws happy etc just like a courtesy call. Anyway , after a few minutes he told me about this offer they are doing with InStyle to have the next 3 issues for a £1 each. He then asked me my account details to deduct the £1 direct debit. I became suspicious and asked him if he could send the direct debit request through the post but he fobbed me off basically saying it was 100% safe etc but i refused and he just said "ok then bye" and hung up.
Am I right in being wary giving account details over the phone? Its just i have no proof where he was calling from and I don't feel comfortable with it. Is this suspicious? Have others had similar calls?

Answers:

I haven't had any similar calls, but it definately sounds dodgy so I think you did the right thing!

He's a prat! Ddidn't he introduce himself and say where he was calling from?!
Put it down to either dodgyness or a crap salesman!

I've not had a similar call, but you're always right to err on the side of caution if you think it could be dodgy.
FWIW I would have done the same thing. I would never give my bank details to someone who called me.
Have you tried contacting your subscription company and asking them if they're doing this sort of offer?

Answers:

You did the right thing i think. Id never give out bank details unless i knew 100% that it was genuine
