Question:
1940s fashion
Am after some advice ladies :)
I've been invited to a 1940s themed fancy dress party and while my first reaction was :yay: I have been trawling the web for some authentic fashion and it's not really what I had in mind, I think I was more along the lines of the 50s (think Scarlett Johannson in those venice pics) and seems to be lots of skirt suits and hats.
Any suggestions for my outfit, hair and makeup?
Thanks ;)
Wasn't Christina Aguleiras (sp?) recent style very 40s inspired? Like quite burlesque-y. Peroxide hair, red lips, waist belts and all that jazz? Wasn't Marylin Monroe 40s? XX
I think that Marilyn Monroe was 50's- Rita Hayworth and Greta Garbo are the stars that come to mind from the 40's. Make up wise, lips were very well done in pillarbox red and I think they powdered their faces. Hair was generally done in finger waves, to sit underneath pillar box hats. Nipped in waists were big for the jacket and a matching pencil skirt was worn- particularly in forest green (I have a really clear picture in my head of how this looks but can't work out who it is!). Plus they wore lovely leather driving gloves and very structured leather heres. The emphasis seemed to be on grooming, not a hair out of place. It is lovely though and don't forget the seamed stockings (try tights please)
I agree with Caroboy - have a look at some pics of the films The Aviator or Pearl Harbour for some inspiration.
films like the Land Girls as well
you could go down the sexy uniform look if you want as well just make sure it's tailored and has a nipped in waist
