I would say don't even bother. Purple Karen is good at this kind of thing but the best thing to do is measure under your boobs so you know your back size and then just try on all the cups (within reason) until you find the one which looks and feels best.

Oh, someone mentioned me :)
Measuring with a tape measure is never reliable. For starters, tape measures are made of a rigid fabric and bras are stretchy, so it doesn't really translate properly.
If you're house bound for some reason and/or can't get to a fitter, tape measures can sometimes be an approximate starting point. But you're much better off following the advice/instructions for how to see if a bra fits you properly, without measurements. I'd start with getting the back size right first, then it's easier to work out what cup size you need.

I use to work for M&S lingerie and this is the method i was taught:
-Measure under your boobs with tape measure, (in inches) if the amount is an even number add 2, if the amount is an odd number add 1. (ie you measure 35 inches, your back size will be a 36)
-Measure over your boobs, straight across the middle of your boobs. Take your orginal back amount (say 35 again) and if your boobs are 1 inches more (36) then you will be an A cup,
2 inches more= B
3 inches=C
4 inches=D
5 inches=DD
and so on.
But if you can it is best to get measured by someone in one of the department stores like M&S or BHS as they do it everyday so will be able to fit you better.
Hope that helps!!

I'm sorry, PiperRose, I don't mean this as a personal insult in any way, but M&S are notorious for incorrect fitting. I wear a 30FF and when I use the method you've just described it comes out as a 32D.
A truly good bra fitter fits by eye and doesn't use a tape measure. You know what a properly fitting pair of trousers looks like without measuring yourself, it's no different with bras.
