Question:
Barcelona Shopping
Hey heregers!
I'm off to Barcelona for a couple of days, and have never been there (or in fact Spain) before...
...can anyone recommend any shops to visit? From individual boutiques to department stores, any suggestions would be appreciated - I've got birthday money to spend! :yay:
Thanks!
Hi
You are in for a treat I love Barcelona it is a fab city - I have been 3 times!
Zara and Mango are much better than in the UK and are always worth a look - I also like El Corte Ingles - huge department store chain across Spain you can usually pick up a few bargains if they have a sale on
Enjoy your break!
Please please please be wary of pickpockets - especially children. I went with my family a couple of years ago, and my dad had his wallet in a zipped-up pocket in the front of his jacket. A small child unzipped the pocket and got his hand on the wallet before my dad realised. Luckily he left empty handed, but they tend to hang around places like ice-cream vendors and hit while you're distracted.
Can't help with shops I'm afraid, we only went for the day while in Spain. Have a fabby time though!

Yes Contemptous is right be careful of pick pocketers and there is also a lot of begging. But it is the most wonderful city to visit and every corner you turn holds something different. It really is quite surreal especially at night which is magical around the gothic quarters and near the cathedral. You must be careful though because it is so easy to just take the wrong turning and find yourself in a dodgy street. And my Catalan friend says this too.
With regards to shops check out Bershka and Stradavarius for high fashion and also really cheap. Also Mango and Zara are cheaper here well what you pay in pounds, you pay in Euros. There are loads of Zara stores and one in particular is absolutely huge (biggest I have ever been in). Oh and Blanco is another one to look out for.
If you are more classic look out for Massimo Dutti.
For loungewear and pyjamas look for Oysho and Women's Secret, they have some lovely designs.
Barcelona is very different to any other Spanish city I have visited and is far more cosmpolitan and unconventional (especially with regards to dressing).
Shoe shops are good. I can't remember any specific one off shop names as I mainly know high street chains.
Have fun, I am dying to go back but will be checking out Madrid next.
LouLou69 - thanks for your recommendations!
Contemptuous - I'm glad to here your Dad was okay: I've heard from a couple of people to be wary of pickpocketers....I've just come back from Rome, where they also operate significantly, so I shall be keeping my belongings close to hand:)
spanishdancer - thanks also for your recommendations....I love Massimo Dutti: I hopethe one in Barcelona is cheaper than the Mancunian one!
Do you remember any particular areas/streets to keep to for shops?
Thanks to everyone again for their help so far
