Question:
Silica?
Hi
I'm sorry to post about this again. I posted this in Hair yesterday but no-one is interesting in helping me. Silica helps your skin too so I guess it's OK to post it in here.
I have read through some of the old threads about it but would just like some questions answered from those of you have had a really good result from Silica.
I had all my hair chopped of while having chemotherapy as I was told I would lose it.
I've done 6 months of chemo which is thankfully now over and miraculously my hair didn't drop out. It is a little thin so i'd love it to be thicker and longer as soon as possible if i'm honest.
My hair atm is really not 'me' I can't have it highlighted still at the moment so it is my natural colour which i'm not keen on, and if I hadn't had my hair cut to prevent the weight of it pulling it out etc, then it would still be past my shoulders.
So, to those of you who have had noticale success;
* What brand of Silica did/do you use? Where did you get it?
* How many mg do you take daily?
* Do/did you take it on it's own or did you have to take MSM with it for maximum effect? (If so how many mg of MSN?)
* How long did it take before you saw some effects?
Sorry for all the questions!
Thank you.

the hair forum can be a bit slow but nothing personal!
after my mums chemo (she cut it short too and it didnt fall out possibly because she cut it off) her hairdresser said to just look after it as it is rather than taking loads of supplements etc because you dont know how they will affect you after something so gruelling as chemo!! Am sure her oncologist was stirct on what she did and didnt take as well i.e if you dont need it for your health dont take it as your body has a lot to get over at the moment!
i take 5 sea kelp tablets from H&B for my hair and nails so cant comment on silica but recommend you speak to the breast clinic or your oncologist before taking anything just to make sure its ok - the breast clinic and your nurse can give lots of good avice too - also try the look good feel better charity for lots of advice
and just to say well done on getting through chemo - have seen how unpleasant it is and glad your ok!
I take the H&B silica along with Biotin (H&B again). I usually take one each a day. I also take MSM (this holds the hair in the scalp longer than it would usually stay in) from a local health shop & take Flaxseed oil daily, too. If you start taking all these, you should see a difference within a few months. If you start with the Biotin ALL your hair will grow faster :cmeek:.
You'll also need to eat well & drink lots of water. A high protein breakfast (I love eggs) is a good start & iron is a good idea, too (you'll get this with eggs but make sure you have some vitamin C at the same time as your iron).
Glad you're over your ordeal & HTH some.
I take H&B high strength silica tablets (well I say I take them but I haven't for months, I just started on them again today!!) amd MSM 1000mg - both one a day.
Last year I took them religiously for they really did work. I'm trying to grow my nails again hence why I've started taking them again.
i've been taking the high strength h&b silica tablets for about 2 months now and i have to say my hair and nails feel good. my hair feels quite resilient and my nails no longer split like they used to. so i'm gonna keep taking them religously now along with my other vitamins.
i'm intrigued by the MSM stuff now, will have to look into it...
