Help me with my acne !!!
Question:

Help me with my acne !!!
hi. ive been struggling with my skin alot lately. ive always had a few spots (never clear skin) but it has become gradually worse and worse and is also scarring my skin.

i kind of just accepted the fact that i have bad skin, until after a lesson one day a teacher kept my behind after and told me that i needed to go to a doctor and sort my skin out:o

ive been given the contaceptive pill yasmin and acnisal facewash but they are not really making any difference. i read the acne cure thread and this is the facewash they use there, so was thinking of giving it a try but i was wondering does anybody know where i can buy the glycolic acid 8 % from??

other that that i am open to ANY suggestions people have which might help me.

thankyou xxx

I'd be well upset if a teacher said that to me!
Have you tried a few different pills? I'm on yasmin but I know some people find dianette, cilest etc good for acne.
How long have you been using the facewash? Often these things taken a month or so to show effect. My skin has improved since I stopped cleansing with detergents though and started using natural oils/waxes to clean with, using hot water and muslin to remove it. This helps keep your skin exfoliated - acne skin needs more help than normal skin.
I've not tried the acid treatment so I can't comment. How long have you suffered, and how old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Do you take any supplements? B vitamins, zinc, vitamin E and C and evening primrose (in high strengths) are supposed to be good for acne.
It might be worth going back to the doctors. I know I come on here and preach all natural :p but honestly for your peace of mind, it's worth pestering the docs for drugs and new treatments.

ive started taking a multivitamin, eating more healthy and trying to drink more water but i dont know if this will make much difference.

Hi Clairey.
I would second everything Becca said.
Since you are 18, there is still a chance you might 'grow out of it'. However, this phrase has been the bane of my life! I kept being told that until the last time I visited my doctor and he admitted that, at 26, I've probably completely gone through puberty by now.
For that reason, I would keep pestering your doctor. And like you say, you need to give everything a fair trial. My doctor liked me to try something consistently for at least 6 months before believing my plea that it didnt work... which was annoying and required a huge amount of patience on my part (very frustrating), but it makes good sense when you think about it.
My doctor tried me on a face lotion for ages, then Dianette (the pill) for about 3 years, then two different types of anti biotic. The only thing that worked for me was one of the anti-biotics but I had to stop taking this because I had a funny reaction to it. There were big gaps in between these treatments when I spent a fortune on products which claim to clear up your skin.
The last time I went to see my GP he suggested roaccutane which can only be perscribed by a dermotologist (I've started a seperate thread about this), however I've had to go through all the other treatments first which took 13 years.
So my advice would be to try everything your doctor gives you, keep going back if it doesnt work and make it VERY clear how much having acne effects your life. Also, don't buy into all the products which are meant to clear up your skin... if you have proper acne they are very unlikely to work.
Try visting www.stoppickingonme.com if you tend to pick your skin. I found it quite helpful (if not a bit poncy at times), it explains why picking your skin causes so much damage and makes the problem worse. I found that after the age of 21 my skin started to scar a lot more easily, so its good to get into the habit of not picking your skin NOW.
As far as make-up is concerned, it might be worth trying a mineral foundation like lilylolo which is meant to be good for the skin. I've been using it for about 2 months now, and while it doesnt clear my skin i'm pretty certain it doesnt make it worse, which many other foundations do.
Finding the right moisturiser is also quite important. Its taken me a long time to find one which actually moisturises my skin but doesn't make it more spotty. I've come to the realisation that nothing you put on my face will actually clear it up, so now I aim to use things that don't make it worse IYGWIM!!
Of course, living healthily will help, but we all already know that!!
Hope that helps. I know how horrible it is to have problem skin and how it manages to effect so many things in your life. I would say the doctor is the way forward (And, of course, keep praying you will grow out of it!!).
Good luck X x x

thankyou so much for your reply. i know im not the first person in the world to get spots and it must sound so pathetic. i guess im just gonna have to carry on for now and hope for the best. il give the facewash and pill a bit longer and see how i get on.

ive been having a look at mineral foundations and was thinking lilly lolo or bare escentuals?? i ordered samples of lilly lolo n it seemd 'ok' but i dont think i was really using a good brush so maybe thats why. do they offer enough coverage and would you say one brand is better than the other??
