Question:
Another skin thread - is this a myth?
After the xmas blow-out of booze and chocolate etc, I have spent the last week or so being really good, eating lots of fresh food and guzzling water and cutting processed food out. My skin has gone mental this weekend. I have lots of big spots around my chin and under it (ick) which I'm trying to leave alone. Also my face seems oilier.
Could this be my skin just 'clearing itself out'? Does it really do that? I'm hoping it's short term, as it doesn't seem much of a reward for all my good intentions
Anyone know?
Hi beckabunga,
Whilst it has been proven that chocolate does NOT cause spots, I'm stating the obvious by saying that drinking alcohol is not very good for the skin or body.
Spots are caused for lots of reasons, hormonal reasons e.g. time of the month or diet etc. As you said, you're "detoxing" now, so that is probably why you are breaking out in spots.
Whenever you change a routine, be it your diet, or how you cleanse your face, your skin has to adjust to this change, and that is probably what is happening with you.
I wouldn't worry too much, your skin should clear up after a few days, just maintain your healthy eating. Exercising, and getting your 5-a-day all play a part in maintaining good skin and hair. :)
Hiya,
Spots around the chin area are supposed to be hormonal. (I'm on antibiotics for this and fingers crossed, they seem to be working). However if you don't usually get spots in that area then I would guess it's a result of the over-indulging at Xmas (but it was worth it, right :p ).
Maybe try taking some Milk Thistle to help your liver clear out all the toxins (not just alcohol related ones either) and stick to the water and I'm sure your skin will be back to normal in no time....

Although chocolate itself won't give you spots, too much sugar can. It cocks up your system allowing for all kinds of nasties from diabetes to thrush. Diabetics (or those with pre-diabetes) can often be plagued with bad skin.
i agree that while chocolate doesnt give you spots eating too much sugar and not getting enough nutrients does. i also believe that drinking water really does help.im guilty of eating way 2 much rubbish and not drinkin enough ( i used to drink as little as a small glass of orange a day) so my new years resolulution is 2 be more healthy n hopefully my skin will clear up. i think your skin is prob just getting used to the change at the moment and should clear up. il let you know how i get on
