Question:
Why aren't my nails growing after extensions?
Hi there, I have had my nail extensions removed for about two months now and although my nails are getting stronger they are just not growing. I am using Nail Envy on them and also nail oil. When I had false nails three years ago my nails were even more damaged then then they are this time as I had my nails drilled at one of the Chinese salons and my nails grew again within two to three months, they are usually very strong. What is going wrong?
Nail extensions can cause damage to the matrix of the nail where the new cells are made, causing the nails not to grow as quickly. Im sure they are just in need of some tlc and given time they will return to being strong. Stay away from those electric drills those cheap shops use on your nails, they are totally no good and should not be used at all! Its always best to go to a well know and reputable salon for nail extensions and the good salons should offer after care treatments when the extensions are taken off.
double post! hb being nobbin slow again!
adding to what louxlou says, i would also personally stay away from acrylic nails and go for gel instead. the way gel is applied is much kinder to the nail. a layer of gel should be applied directly to the nail and then the tip glued onto the gel, so that when the tip is being blended in, its filed into the gel and not into your own nail so that no damaged is caused to your nail.
also, that oil stuff that claims to make your nails grow is just a gimmick. its the massaging of the cuticle area during application which stimulates nail growth, not the actual oil, so you may as well use any kind of oil/cream.
def alot of these oils that are sold are a con, also they try to sell you cuticle oil when you have acrylic extensions applied to nails, in fact this oil actually causes the acrylic to flake and lift quicker!
