Hi there
Are you using pale/light products, for instance, if you wear foundation, do you tend to go for the lightest shade you can get? If so, try mixing some dark pigmented foundation into it and try creating a foundation that is ok with your complexion, but doesn't look too much, or too little. Another thing I've found is application, do you use your fingers, sponge or brush? I've been using a brush and then dabbing with a sponge and have found it distributes the foundation better and more even.
Also, do you wear mascara? I never used to, but have been recently and have found it makes a BIG difference to my appearance, I use the Maxfactor masterpiece mascara and it's been brilliant :)
Eyeshadow. Do you wear it? If so, try experimenting with colours that suit your complexion and hair colour, I've got red hair, so I either go for for an almost nude colour or sometimes a darkish green.
Blusher is also good, but it has to be the right colour for you, generally a pinky colour goes well with me, but sometimes a slight brown can give a nice, almost tanned look.
It's all about finding things that work with your complexion and hair colour, another idea could be going to say Debenhams and asking them to give you a makeover, I think TBS do makeovers too and you can ask them to list everything they've used, ask what colours they think suit you, how to apply, all sorts!
I hope that's some help, I'm sure other baggers will have plenty to say which will help!

Would be interesting to know what you wear now and in what shades and what colour your hair and eyes are... that way we can see where you are going wrong.
I have very dark hair, medium skin and hazel eyes... Daily, I wear a brown toned foundation, lashings of black mascara, netural powder, bronzer, benefit high beam on cheek bones and brow bones and a neutral gloss. It's noticeable that I am wearing make up.
:D

Yes please tell us what you are wearing on your face and what your skinton is and eye colour and hair colour it may be a case that your wearing shades that are too neutral for your coloring.
Unfortunately I am so red faced that I always have to wear make-up but its a real art to not look like you are  so it might not be a bad thing.
Or it could just be that the stuff your using isn't giving you enough coverage or the colour isn't pigmented enough.
But we can't help unless we know what your particular issues are.
