FAO Fairy or anyone else who can help!
Question:

FAO Fairy or anyone else who can help!
Hi  it's the first thread I've started in Beauty so hope this is okay posted in here.
I've recently graduated and have an interview on Friday as a sales consultant for a beauty counter. I was just wondering what kind of questions will be asked such as whether they would ask me what I know of the brand and how to deal with customers etc. Also, am debating whether to go for office smart or casual in terms of attire.
I'm really nervous as I've not had many experiences of interviews and really want to prepare well for it so any suggestions would be welcome. Hope you guys can help me.

Firstly, swot up on the company. If they have particular ethics/values make sure you're familiar. Know what ranges of products they do (you don't need to know a lot, just so you don't look blank :D) and where it's stocked.
Wear all black, smart and make sure that you wear shoes you can stand up in for at least an hour just incase they want you do go onto the shopfloor for a trial.
Stress how important you consider customer service to be - throw in things like 'I feel that the difference between your company and your supermarket make up stands is service. Customers can come and receive time and advice on which products will suit them and be shown how to use them which can make all the difference to the customer and of course to the business.' :D This is a really hot topic in the business at the moment so if you allude to it they'll know you're on the ball.
Also make sure you're familiar with different skin types, colourings etc - again, in depth knowledge isn't necessary but knowing that dry skin needs a richer regime and that redheads suit greens and golds is a good start.
Most of all GLOW with enthusiasm and confidence. If you don't feel it, fake it. If you can't fake it, try your bloody hardest! They will expect you to be nervous but smiling and chatting your way through really makes the world of difference.
Good luck sweetie

Hey
If I were you I would research the brand, not all the history, just its main ideas and objectives and any new ranges of products they are currently promoting. This will give you some basic knowledge of the brand and show the interviewer that you have done some preperation. You may also find it useful to research the audience the brand is targeting, and the main message they are trying to convey. This is after all, a sales job :)
They are also likely to ask you how you would deal with customers, for example greeting them and helping them find products to suit.
Beauty counter workers represent the products they are selling, and therefore should look presentable and polished imo. I think you should dress smart / smart casual, keep makeup simple, fresh and natural.
Hope this helps

Thanks Fairy :higgies: I knew you could help me, as you're so good at your job and often give us advice here on this board.
I would have never thought to wear all black but it does make sense seeing as I want to look professional. I've been swotting up on the brand and what ranges they do but I'll definitely brush up on the customer service front.
I'm soo nervous!

Thanks Sebs. :)
That's useful advice. I've already been researching into their target audience and what they stand for and I'll definitely show them what I know at the interview. I'm going to do what you suggest and keep my make-up light as the brand is more skincare focused.
I hope the big spot on my forehead will disappear before friday!
