Bliss Spa, SK:N and glycolic acid!!!
Question:

Bliss Spa, SK:N and glycolic acid!!!
Hello, i'm in desperate need of some help, please!!
I have some, I thought, pigmentation from ex-spots on my back.
I went to SK:N on friday, for a skin consultation, in the hope of getting quickie glycolic acid treatment for it over the summer.
The horrible horrible woman (obviously she has never undergone communications skills training like medical students...) was all wishy washy and intent on selling me a gazillion products (all of which I don't really have any intention of buying, but apparently 'must.' (why doesn't it say that on all their websites, urgh). She said that normally she can recognise ex-acne... pondered rudely over it, then went to fetch some other woman. Then they both pondered over it... and then said to me that maybe it was a fungal infection. WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!?! One of them asked me if I had been abroad recently. Urgh. I may only be a becoming-4th-year medical student and therefore not in the possession of much knowledge, but even i know that a little bit of pigment on my back is not active fungal infection, especially when it's not fricking spreading anywhere. And then she was saying all this stuff about pustules... and I was thinking, 'but that's what some kinds of acne are..., no? Pustules!!!!' So anyway, it didn't end very well. She was very patronising and obviously i have decided not to get treatment there. She told me that I would need 6 treatments- making it seem that I HAD to book all 6 together (?!?!?). And she said she would be using THE mildest acid because I have Asian skin (read that as very very pale Oriental skin).
So... now I'm not really sure what to do. I really wanted to clear it up over the summer.
I'm tempted to go to another clinic (not SK:N) or to go to Bliss Spa clinic. What do people think? Have they any recommendations? Really really wanted this sorted out. I don't think the pigmentation needs 6 treatments. It doesn't look that severe. She also said that she wouldn't do microdermabrasion in case of pigmentation problems afterwards. If this is the case for all clinics and non-white skin, then I think they should bloody well write it on their websites!!!
A very angry Borborygmi. Urggghhhh.
p.s. tres tres sorry for the rant!

hi,
she sounds like a nightmare, and out to rip you off.
I had some marks on my back from spots (i had a serious outbreak on my face an some on my back) but they are going away slowly (best thing I can advise is to use a salycilic acid body wash (Neutrogena Body Clear Bodywash) or Jan Marini stuff (or even Paula's Choice 2% Glycolic Acid stuff) and then importantly...moisturise with something non-clogging (best one for teh back which is spotty is Clarins Natural Plant oil for oily skin...i can't remember if it's blue lotus oil or something else, it will slowly clear up the marks and heal skin, or you could try Bio Oil in its place). Hope this helps
I gorgot to add, you should also exfoliate the back regularly with a scrub (e.g. Loreal Exfotonic) to renew the skin and get rid of the marks quicker

What about Alpha-h? They are an Australian based company & were very generous with samples when I emailed them a couple of years ago;)
Their range is based around glycolic acid & I have their 15% glycolic mask which is really fab!
QVC also do lots of kits & you can always use their 30 day money back guarantee if the range doesn't suit you.:)
I have really dry skin, but the COmpany founder quite often tells the story that the range sorted out her really bad acne prone skin within 3 days, so she bought the company!
They are really helpful, what about taking a photo of your problem area & emailing Alpha h & see what they suggest?
Here's the link in case you want to read up on them www.alpha-h.com

If it's pigmentation marks, you could try Philosophy's Help Me. It's got retinol in it & has scored good reviews on MUA. If you're still a bit if about trying it as it's not cheap, order it from QVC. At least you'll be able to try it & send it back if it doesn't do the trick.
Paula's Choice USA does an AHA lotion that sounds like it could help, but it's not available on her EU site.
As you're a med student, can you ask a few of your fellows to take a quickie & get an opinion from them? At least some of them might have an idea & they won't be flogging you stuff (I heard Bliss was a high-pressured selling environment, too).
Love you name, btw :gp: (couldn't find a rumbly smiley, sorry :))

I used retin-A lotion on mine from the doctors and they almost disappear. They were really really bad at the time and my back was covered in acne.
