Question:
2 Sunscreen Questions
I am going away to Tunisia for a fortnight in August and it will be hot, hot, hot
I have been doing some research on sunscreens but I can't seem to find out how much to take - 2 bottles? 3? Apparently most people use too little thus lowering the effective SPF. If I am re-applying throughout the day - how much should I take?
Also - can anyone recommend a good lip balm with SPF? I am keen on the yellow Vaseline Lip Therapy spf 15 but am not so keen on the petroleum jelly base which I find drying:confused: Has anyone tried it or have any other good recs?
TIA - SS
I'm not sure about how much sunscreen to take. I think it depends on the person, how much you use. IE a larger/taller person will use more etc. I think that the general rule is to apply it liberally and to cover your body really well. How many bottles that would take for you to do for a whole fortnight, I'm not sure of. Maybe try and estimate it going by that though. I'm sure I've read that on an average person a bottle lasts five days though. So maybe 3 would be about right.
I would advise against the vaseline one, I've had it and it was very drying. Another one I would avoid is the nivea spf one, it's basically like a solid stick of sunblock. It's thick, leaves a white cast and is actually so thick it's impossible to spread over the lips. Oh and it's very drying as well.
Keihls do an spf version of their original lipbalm, which I imagine would be much nicer. As the original balm is good, it isn't drying and is more like a gloss.
:)
I was about to ask the same question. I bought a couple of 400ml bottles of Soltan today, and on the back of one it says that when the lotion is applied correctly it should contain 12 applications. So I would say that a big bottle should only last two or three days, depending on how much time you spend in the sun. I suppose it's always better to take too much than not enough.
Thanks OC and EF
I am a taller and larger person so would have to upscale but will not be exposing my middle section :o so just legs, arms, chest, upper back and face - I think I will get 4 to be safe.
I am fair but tan well and am a convert to protecting myself from the sun as much as possible (long gone are those baby oil / hawaiian tropic factor 2 days) so was thinking of getting SPF 20 / 15 - is that enough? Any good recs?
Thanks for the Kiehls tip OC, I used to use their original balm and didn't think of that
I use Soltan as it was advertised as the only one to protect against uva and uvb, they do a version called once which apparently only needs applying once throughout the day, they were also doing a 2 for 1 in boots on this range the other day. I reckon 2 bottles of this would be plenty for anyone.
