Question:
Congested spotty skin
My skin is looking just generally very rough atm and I have huge pores on my nose and chin :(
I am on the pill Mervelon which my doctor said was skin friendly but it hasn't made much difference to my spots. My diet is okay- not brilliant but I do manage to eat both very good food and very bad ones at the same time e.g oily fish and avocado for lunch and Mcdonalds for tea
I am thinking of going back to the doctors about my spots but I've never had congestion problems before.
Can anyone reccomend anything?
A few things to try -
Alpha H Liquid Gold - you can buy this from hqhair.com but it's pricey (£28). This contains glycolic acid and if you use it every night it should help clear up congestion, spots/scars and refine your skin. Love this stuff.
Diet - try whizzing up linseeds and eating around a tablespoon a day, either mixed into cereal/muesli or hidden in some other food. The omega oils in these sorted my skin out a treat. Drink loads of water. Keep sugar (inc alcohol) to an absolute minimum. Eat fresh and raw wholefoods wherever you can!
Lavender oil diluted in a thin base, eg thistle/jojoba/grapeseed oil - apply a couple of drops to affected areas before bed. This clears my skin up in just a few days.
Exfoliating gently, regularly - this helps get rid of dead cells, which block pores. Acne skin sheds old skin slower than normal skin so needs help. You could gently massage every day with muslin cloth, or use something like Lush Angels on Bare Skin, which also has clay to help draw out toxins.
Good luck hun, hope something above helps.
I use liz earle's deep cleansing scrub (can't think of the name but its the only one they do) its great for drying out spots and making your skin look clearer.
for congested skin i would recommend:
* paula's choice 2% bha - this comes in liquid, lotion or gel form and contains 2% salicylic acid which is an exfoliant and keeps the pores uber clean and will clear up congestion/blackheads/bumps under the skin.
you can get it here:
http://www.paulaschoice-eu.com/shop/...ory&showcat=48
* jan marini bioclear cream - this contains 12% glycolic acid and is designed to resurface the skin and keep it looking smooth and clear. it's not cheap, about 40 quid but it lasts ages and is well worth it.
you can get it here:

or alternatively off US ebay!
hth :)
