Growing hair and having trims
Question:

Growing hair and having trims
Hi, following on from my thread about growing my hair after having two inches lopped off (not by request), I am just wondering how to go on about having trims while I am trying to grow it. I have a fringe which needs trimming regularly otherwise it gets in my eyes but I don't fancy going to the hairdresser just to have my fringe trimmed, it seems a faff just for that. When I go for a colour I will have my fringe trimmed then and not the length but what about when just my fringe needs trimming? When my hair is back to its usual length I'll just have the length trimmed aswell as my fringe but just now I am wary of having the length trimmed. I went to the hairdressers last week for a colour and asked her just to take the very ends off as I am growing my hair and I feel sure she's lopped it back to the length it was as I had those two inches off in April so it should have grown an inch since then and now it doesn't seem to look any different.
If it wasn't for having to have colours to cover the grey and having my fringe trimmed I'd avoid the hairdressers like the flipping plague now I think!

Well i always trim my own fringe in between visiting the hairdresser, i only go every 5 or 6 months as my hair is long and in good condition, if you do decide to trim it yourself get some good sharp hairdressing scissors, and take your time, you are best to take less of than you think, you can always take a little more of, but as you know can't make it long again, with out waiting for weeks, and if you think its not cool to trim your own fringe, well its good enough for Sienna Miller !!:D

Hi,

Some salons will trim just your fringe free of charge, between visits, if you're a regular customer so it might be worth asking if they will do this.

Having said that, I always trim my own as I've too many fringe disasters in the past where the Hairdresser has cut it too short or uneven.

I trim my own fringe between salon visits & use hairdressing scissors & try to follow the line that the hairdresser cut in. When I've finished I put the very end of the scissors, vertically, into the end of the fringe & chop up into the line & it stops the blunt look, however, if you prefer a blunt fringe you can always leave it.
I also remember reading a tip that if you make a ponytail at the top of your fringe & trim it in the ponytail, you get a rounded, shaped fringe rather than a straight line. I did used to do it that way but I just follow the hairdresser's line now.
