Question:
best make up brands to buy in america
im going on hol to america next week (disneyworld - i cant wait :)) and i wanted to buy some new makeup. which brands are the best in terms of value for money (i.e. the exhange rate?)
i currently use clinique and from looking at the website it seems to be fairly cheap over there, espec the DD moisturiser. but im looking to explore other brands. how cheap is MAC over there and other brands like that?
A lot of brands are cheaper in the U.S.
I suppose it depends on what brands you are interested in.
To give you an example with popular cosmetic brands -
MAC Plushglass in the UK - £13
MAC Plushglass in the U.S. - about £9
NARS lip lacquer in the UK - £16
NARS lip lacquer in the U.S. - about £11
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in the UK - £27
Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in the U.S - about £19
It's also worth checking out some of the drugstores like Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid. They have cheaper cosmetic brands like Wet 'N' Wild, Jane, N.Y.C not to mention that Maybelline, Revlon and others are cheaper over here. It's also great fun to mooch round the U.S. drugstores and see what interesting things you can find. :)
Any of the Lauder or L'Oreal groups will be cheaper.
L'Oreal have lots of slightly-different-but-much-nicer items in the pharmacies. Check out their little nail varnishes with a holographic finish - I top mine with Sally Hansen's Mega Shine (also much cheaper over there), which doubles the depth of the colour, gives an amazing shine & really does what it says on the bottle with regard to drying in 60 seconds! Cover Girl is worth a look & you can't get it over here.
My fave drug store brand is Physician's Formula - they do a pressed mineral powder which is brilliant. Neutrogena has a much bigger range, too. They've just brought out their version of the L'Oreal brush-in-a-pot mineral foundation & they also have a wide range of blackhead/spot reducing stuff over there. Look out for their Healthy Skin tinted moisturiser - fab stuff!
The GWPs out there are much nicer than ours. Shop around to see if any of the department stores are doing them before you buy.
Have a great time & go with a very large, empty suitcase!

I've heard from people that Benefit is very very cheap in America. People have told me it's the same price over there as it is here but in $! So say Dr feelgood is £19.50 here, it would be $19.50 over there which I think is about half the price.
I had a look on http://www.sephora.com/ for price comparison when my friend went out there to tell her what I wanted :)
i know that L'oreal has got this HIP (highly pigmented) line which is supposed to be veeeeery good
