Question:
mac pigments/eyeshadow?
Hi,
I have heard a lot about pigments of barry m and mac.
So bought a few mac shades (pigments) but found they are soooo frosty and glittery and go all over the place.
I used primer with it as well- use smashbox. It works a little better with it than without.
My question is which would you suggest for low level glamour but long lasting? I know matte would be look caked so any suggestions would be helpful
Will go into MAC and ask them or go onto a few beauty counters as want to update my eyeshadow collection- used to love the no7 trios and tried the bobbi brown palettes but were sheer - lovely though just not strong enough to wear on the outer lid. the base really helped bring out the colours in that (am a newbie with bases!!! but I end up wearing loads as by the time I get to where I want, the makeup fades all off!)
Any suggestions of non frosty shades in pigments? they do have a strong colour. maybe the normal eyeshadows are better...the only thing with pigments, is the samples are available cheaper ... :)
maybe I should try the barry m? what are your views on them?
your help would be appreciated.
I've only the Barry M Dazzle Dust pigments as I think I must be the only bagger not to rate MAC. I just doesn't work for me-not even when it was applied by a pro make-up artist:cmdunno:
I love Dazzle Dusts but they do take some getting used to. Yes they are frosty, or as Barry M put it "multiple facets of intensive reflective colour" But they stay put for hours (on me anyway!) and they don't look as frosty after a bit. If you don't wear them during the day they are great for nights out. I stop the powder falling all over my cheek bones by either dusting an extra layer of face powder to the area before I apply and then brush away with a large powder brush when finished or holding a tissue just under the eye to catch any stray shadow. Another way I find helps stop it going all over the place is to dampen the shadow brushes I am using before I get the pigment on them. It really helps it stay where you want it to go. Barry M suggest applying a thin layer of Vaseline on the eyelid before applying, but I'm not convinced this won't take off half my mascara half an hour after I've applied it:confused:
Check out the Barry M Dazzle Dust colours on this site http://www.barrym.co.uk/index.cfm?fu...&i_category=85 They only cost £4:50 a pot (which will last you for ever) and Superdrug often have them on offer for 3 for £10:00:)
I know what you mean about the No.7 shadows, I used to love them until the changed them, now they don't seem to have the oomph they used to:rolleyes:
I've never used Barry M - I have to admit it's mostly down to packaging, as it reminds me of stuff I used to buy from the discount store when I was 12. But looking at the website today, I'm very tempted!
MAC pigments are OK. I have a few, and to be honest I don't use them very much. They are very frosty, but you will find that with most of that type.
Lily Lolo eyeshadows are a very similar type of eyeshadow. I have samples of nearly every colour, and I only intend to buy a colour if my sample runs out (they last ages). They do frosty/pearly and matte finishes. I love thier duochrome types, where it flashes a different colour (golden lilac, ripe plum, sandy shore, pixie) - they are all such pretty colours. I wear them over a primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion), and last all day on me. I also get less fall out with these for some reason.
Hey
I'm a MAC fan. I do have a couple of pigment samples but I find their colour a bit too bright for daytime. But, like you, I've found that the No7 shadows don't show up very easily. I think normal MAC shadows have a much better colour quality than the No7 ones but I appreciate it is more expensive than buying the pigment samples. I think all of the MAC pigments have a frost finish and all of the Barry M dazzle dusts are very sparkly so if you're finding the sparkle a bit much perhaps they aren't the right thing. Have you tried Bourjois eyeshadows? As much as I am a MAC lover I'm also a student so I can't always afford to indulge my obsession. I really love Bourjois eyeshadows, they're shimmery without being over the top and they come in a lovely range of colours and are very good quality. They also do little pots of loose shadow but again they are very sparkly.
thanks, yes I can only wear sparkly stuff in the evenings but even then prefer the subtle shimmers or silky type eyeshadow - the old no7 trios were great- since then tried bobbi brown(only the shimmers though), l'oreal (way too cakey), rimmel and co don't have the staying power or look goodI on the eyes. I have some lancome matte shades which I love and yes will try and just get a few bourjois pots
Do you all think the mac eyeshadow pots (ie not pigments) are the better type? I think I will keep the pigments for ueber glamour but I do prefer less glitter and frost.
Any other recommendations? I will go into mac and see what they have, but they will cost me a fortune! they have really nice shades and well eyeshadows do last a lottttt longer than any other makeup :)
I used to be a big beauty spendaholic and go mad for packaging, new things etc. but now a little older (and poorer!!) have realised that it is worth paying more for staples- powders, eyeshadows but glosses can be experimented everywhere :)
