please help my skin
Question:

please help my skin
Hi ive been lurking on this board for a few weeks now and you all seem to be so knowledgeble! am hoping someone can offer me advice with my skin please..sorry for the VERY long post!
im 22 and have had spots for about 10 years now. have been on dianette pill for around 5 years but just been taken off and put onto Yasmin, didnt seem to make much difference if im honest. Ive never suffered with very large cystic spots, they seem to develop with (white)heads on, and for the last couple of years they've been mainly focused around my chin and cheek area, between 2 and 8 at a time..hormonal i think..?? Sometimes I think they are clearing up, but a few days later I'll get a couple of new ones and the cycle starts again..and now its starting to get me down.
I try not to squeeze or touch them, but even if i dont they leave red scars/marks which dont seem to be fading, so even if my skin is fairly clear it still looks a mess :(
Im thinking of going back to the doctor and getting referred to a dermatologist but thought id ask you guys first as you all seem friendly and open to giving advice. product wise i currently use just a plain, unscented norwegen formula face wash and if i wear make up (which is most days as im ashamed of my skin) i take it off with a garnier creamy cleanser. i exfoliate with dermalogia microfoilant couple time a week and use botanics clay mask as well. currently moisturising with superdrug vitamin e oil (recommended on here!), a sample of dermalogica oil control lotion, or olay radiance fluid..none of these products appear to have helped much sadly. am wondering if it is my choice of foundation..max factor lasting performace, if anyone has ever tried this did it affect your skin at all?? I am a student so can not afford to splash out on expensive products really, but i will if they make a difference.

if anyone could offer me advice or recommend any products i would be so thankful, thanks ever so much.

ps. i have a fairly healthy diet, with at least 2lt water most days, ive heard zinc maybe beneficial though...??

 Hi, what you are describing is exactly what i went through, I've had spots for 10 years, then for 3 months last year went round in circles with the kind of spots you describe, it was awful! I had loads of stuff, nothing worked then i tried a product called Avene Diacneal and thats it! They're gone! Also all the marks and scars are fading too. I buy it from Leguidesante.co.uk, but you can also get it fron tubotica.com but shipping is a bit higher. If you want to try it then the most important thing to remember is to use a really good uva/uvb protective sunscreen,(you use the diacneal at night). You have to start off slowly with this product so you dont irritate your skin. HTH!

 emmsie,
i used to suffer from annoying spots as well, i was on dianette for a year and it did the trick and cleared up my skin, then i was moved onto yasmin which is pretty much the samae for me so its good.
i still get the occasional spot which have the potential to leave marks. i'm very diligent about not touching my face as well and if i do have to squeeze i wait for as long as possible to avoid squeezing when nothing is there.
i've basically got my whole skincare regime sorted now for keeping my skin clear and hopefully it will be some help to you as well. :)
i use paula's choice 2% bha liquid to exfoliate and keep my pores clean, since starting using this about 2 months ago it's HG for me. i also dab it on any spots i do get and it dries it up quicker. it's not cheap cos of the damn delivery charges so maybe just order a sample to see if you like it.
you can buy it here: www.paulaschoice-eu.com
i also use the superdrug vitamin e oil which is good as it keeps my skin soft without clogging it up but i also mix this with silkia camellia oil which has skin healing properties and i find it heals up my skin so i don't get left with marks. also it claims to fill in pitted scars as well which i can see its definately plumping out a small scar i have. i love this stuff. it's about £9 delivered and it should last quite a long time.
you can buy this off ebay or www.goldportbeauty.com
then my final form of attack is jan marini's bioglycolic bioclear cream which is excellent, it will resurface your skin, keep the spots away and reduce marks/scarring. it's not cheap (about £45) but it lasts 4-5 months so i think it's worth it. this line is recommened by dermatologists.
you can buy it from ebay or http://www.harleycosmetic.com/Home_Care.php
i also just cleanse using cheapie products, neutrogena visibly clear is really good for my skin, i exfoliate 2-3 times a week using the blackhead eliminating scrub, and i take off make up using the 2 in 1 wash/mask.
i also protect my skin with a daily suncreen.
all the products mentioned above are all HG for me and they have really sorted out my skin.
also i take supplements including zinc which i think is beneficial.
in terms of make up, maybe try mineral foundation? it contains zinc which has healing properties and it will not clog you pores like normal liquid foundation. also, the coverage can be built up if you're not confident about your skin.
i use lily lolo mineral foundation and so do a lot of other people of these boards. i usually just use a light dusting everyday and i haven't worn my liquid foundation for ages and i can feel my skin is the best it has ever been.
have a look here: www.lilylolo.co.uk
hth :)

hey emsie,

you arent alone, I suffer with these dreaded hormonal scarring evil spots too. I take oral antibiotics, it might be worth discussing with your doctor whether you could take these with your pill. I know my friend does, but people differ.

My tip is to use a cleansing lotion as a toner. The best ones are Johnsons Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Cleanser or the boots version. Both are about 3 pounds but they help prevent some spots by removing bacteria and oil build up after your usual cleansing routine.

I know my spots are aggravated by stress. Could this be the case with you? If so, try and identify your source of stress and do things you enjoy to relax.

dalacin t - topical solution is my main weapon for hormonal spots
but preventative - paulas choice BHA 2% - i prefer the body lotion as it doesnt make me flake and moisturises too
