Grooming: Products or Treatments?
Question:

Grooming: Products or Treatments?
  Hi all,
I just wondered if anyone thinks maintenance in terms of grooming such as waxing/ hair/ tan/ eyebrows/ nails/ eyelashes is more important or whether you feel better after getting new products like foundation etc. instead.
I am on a bit of a mission to change my mentality from spending too much on products to instead getting a regular grooming routine to look good, but I don't know anyone else does the same (my cupboards are heaving with too many products now and the high is short-lived, so now I want to focus on getting the basics about my appearance right, and then using up any make-up products i've already got). Does anyone else think the same?
For example, I'm getting my nails done for the first time ever next week and am a bit worried, then i'm getting my first ever facial in 2 weeks (Environ, which is bloody pricey! but apparently worth it), and today I went and got my upper lip threaded (for maintenance after about 8 weeks :cmeek: ) at the Oxford Street in Debenhams.
I want to stick to a grooming regime to get ready for spring and summer, The Powder Lounge threading place I went to also trimmed and neatened up my eyebrows again (had them threaded at the same place way back at start of feb and they've only just gone out of shape now :faint: ), I went to this place http://www.thepowderlounge.co.uk and I must admit that I don't trust myself to do my own brows ever again after seeing the fantastic results they gave me.
I want to go to Nails Ince for my Nails but don't know if anyone else has gone to them and are they any good? I only want a manicure but I don't know whether to have those acrylic things attached to them.
Does anyone else have anymore grooming ideas? I just want to look polished and stop spending on products as I don't think there's any point for me to spend on coloured make-up until I get the basics about my appearance right.

i think good grooming is a good place to start to get the most out of your skincare and cosmetics.
after your suggestion of the debenhams powderlounge place i'm definately heading there when i finish my exams for a treat. i've never had my eyebrows seen to by a professional and am curious to see if i's worth it.
facials are a great idea if you can afford it, cos once your skin is in tip top condition it was take to make up much better and the result will be better, plus should you want to skip the slap, you will feel more confident!
i'm not really one for fake tan, and my oh's mum owns a nail bar so i can get my nails done free but tbh i can't be bothered with my nails and i scuff them so easily.
but yeah definately good grooming is worth spending on, ever since i started just using better products for my skin and looking after it a bit more, i have found i spend a bit more on cosmetics just cos i feel good about trying some new looks.
i haven't been to nails inc either so i can't comment i'm afraid but i'm sure it'll be fine for just a manicure. :) hope you enjoy your facial too!

I think getting professional treatments is a good place to start, as it's much easier to maintain than start from scratch. Also products seem to work better.
I'd try to work out what you need doing and when, and see go from there. A good hair cut always makes me feel well groomed, but I soon get bored of styling it properly. It does take extra time and money to look well groomed, but it's well worth the effort.

I couldn't agree more!
I can't feel much better than when I've had a nice facial, my eyebrows waxed and shaped, and my hair cut and coloured! ;)
Nothing like a bit of girly pampering! :great:

If there is one valuable thing I've learned, it is - find yourself a good facialist, and make her your friend!
A good facial is an absolute must if you want healthy, glowing skin that is protected for the future. A good facialist is an insurance policy for your skin - she will spot problems, be able to tailor your skin regime according to your skin type, give you a prescription facial to treat your individual skin type, and she will never, ever, try to sell you a product that you don't need.
Doesn't matter about the brand of product - whether you like a Clarins Paris Method or Dermalogica Prescription Facial - what matters is that you find someone who understands your skin and lifestyle. This may take some time, but it will be worth it.
Good luck!
