Question:
How dangerous paraben is?
Hello, beautiful hereers.
Well, a friend gave me a body lotion the other name and I read in the ingredients that it contains "methylparaben" and "propylparaben". These ingredients are not safe. What do you say: should I use it or not?
Isn't a paraben a sort of oil made from petrol?
They sound chemically but there are thousands of chemicals that sound scary and do feck all. Sodium Chloride anyone? ;)
EDIT:
Google is your friend ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylparaben
It is an ester (an alcohol extract which is the base of perfumes) which is a popular preservative and stops mould growing all over your cosmetics. Probably could be an irritatant if you've got sensitive skin but nothing to get too worried about.
Apparently parabens are found in some foods naturally anyway, so probably not too much to worry about.
I try my very best to steer clear of paraban products. If there is question that they may be linked to nasty side effects (see FP's link and click 'parabens') then no way am I using them. I use a lot of products that don't use them, and only a couple of products I use have them in and that is Liz Earle products, but she has made it clear she only uses them when absolutely necessary to make sure th actual product is safe to use.

This bugs me. There are THOUSANDS of ingredients that may be unsafe, in cosmetics, in food etc... If you are buying products from a retailer that you trust, then you can be pretty sure that you can use it without acquiring another head. If we were going to use only products that were safe for everyone with no risk of nasty effects... we'd be screwed.
