Tinted moisturiser v foundation v skin primer advice please
Question:

Tinted moisturiser v foundation v skin primer advice please
  Need some experienced advice.
Have read on a couple of sites now that mature skin (45) is better off using tinted moisturiser rather than foundation as even mineral ones don't really help. I've never been a foundation person anyway as never found anything to suit. I have very dry fair skin with quite a bit of redness, open pores from the days I had greasy skin and a few blocked pores on nose/chin area. I tried a Nivea tinted moisturiser which didn't apply easily to my skin and the colour was too noticeable for my taste.
What do other people think?
Currently, I use Dermalogica ultra calming cleanser and skin smoothing cream which I love. Would you apply a tinted moisturiser over your regular moisturiser if you went down this route. What brands would you recommend? Prefer something where can get a sample.
Or do I need a skin primer like Clarins Flash or Models Prefer? Do they come tinted and do you need foundation over the top or is it something that you can use on its own?
I would like to even out my skin tone, reduce redness, etc and look totally natural!

Answers:

Dermalogica do a very light coverage foundation with SPF 15, that is very similar to a tinted moisturiser as it is so light. They normally have little sample blisters to try.
I would also spend time going round the various makeup counters to see what they have and what you like best. Just ask for samples and help - Clarins, Lancome and Estee Lauder are normally very helpful.

I've tried to find a good tinted moisturiser for a long time but keep coming back to the Sisley one. It's pretty expensive (hence the looking around for something else) but by far the best, the colour is really natural and it's really light and comfortable to wear. Hope this helps!

I'm 45 and need foundation but am struggling too. Like you, I used to have greasy, spotty skin but now I have dry skin and foundation seems to make my skin lok drier (therefore older). One thing I do sometimes (but haven't perfected yet :cmdunno: ) is mixing normal foundation with moisturiser. To be applied after/instead of moisturiser.
Worth a try I suppose. I also have Urban Decay foundation, which is very dry and hard to apply anyway.

Cheap but good tinted moisturiser
I've similar (dry, pink etc) skin and similar problems. I used to use foundation, then realised one day that it just didn't look good.
I've tried loads of brands of tinted moisturiser but the one I keep using (over moisturiser with spf) is Tesco Skin Wisdom Visibly Radiant Tinted Moisturiser - it looks natural, feels comfortable and is cheap.
