Question:
Spots - whiteheads, sorry if TMI.
Hey, basically i have been using sudocrem on the whiteheads that i have but it doesnt shift them one bit. The only way i have found of getting rid of whiteheads is to pop them and then stick some sudocrem on top and make sure it gets into the skin. I really dont want to do this though as im trying to kick the habit and i dont think doing this will help me one bit.
So, my question(s) is are there any products which you can put on whiteheads which will help dry them up or get rid of them without squeezing first? Also, what kind of products should you use to prevent getting them in the first place which wont dry out your skin too much? This could be daily, weekly or monthly treatments.
Thank you everyone in advance as I could really do with your expertise. x
White heads are normally due to over active sebum production, or infected blackheads/spots. Is your skin oily at all? If so then you need to use a daily facial wash or toner/cleanser which will remove any excess oil, but a moisturiser is also important to use for your determined skin type.
I personally wouldn't use Sudocream on any spots, purely because it's a very rich base which tends to sit ontop of the skin rather then absorbing.
I tend to get white heads 99.9% of the time when a blackhead has become infected, squeezing skin is never good but it usually does need squeezing once it's got to the whitehead stage, as it's puss under the skin. if you break the skin while squeezing thats when you will get a spot, if you squeeze and it punctures then it should heal over nicely.
Just having a daily routine of cleansing the skin with a good moisturiser should keep your skin looking good, also diet and water intake helps.
I'm 20 now and have had all sort of skin types, I still am not 100% of my actual skin type, I guess it's just a task of finding products that will suit you and make that difference.
Whiteheads aren't blackheads infected or otherwise.
Whiteheads or milia are normally found in dry patches of skin and often round the eyes.
They look like pearly nodules and formed when skin flakes block the pore obsructng hte sebum coming to the surface of the skin.
They are usually removed by a therapist inserting a sterilised needle to the side of milia during a facial which is difficult to do yourself because they are very small. Many around the eye area are far too small to remove at all. A little cross is cut in the side and the 'pearl' which is solid and quite hard is pushed out. Then antiseptic is applied to the area.
Not all therapists will do this.
What you are describing above sounds more like a spot where the plug of sebum has come to the surface and oxidised but it isn't a whitehead.
Some people on the boards have found sudocream helps their spots by drying them out but it won't work on whiteheads at all because it is basically skin that has hardened.
Trying to prevent them is difficult if not impossible for those prone to them as they occur with dry skin, dry skin usually has very small tight pores and get blocked by skin flakes easily. If your problem areas tend to be cheekbones, keeping the area cleansed and gentle exfoliation is the best you can do. The other thing is that it isn't great to exfoliate dry skin too harshly nor does it need to be as regular so you need further advice really on the kind of product to use.

Hey, thanks for your reply, didnt think anyone was going to. Basically, i wouldnt say my skin is greasy really. Im very careful and use cleanser, toner and moisturiser 2 times a day. I have used all the usual clean & clear stuff before, well for years and years and I really found that they didnt help at all and made my skin dry. Ive recently since christmas been using lush ultrabland and washing with a flannel and using a scrub and face mask 1-2 times a week and particularly the ultrabland has helped my skin a lot. One of the main reasons my skin has been so bad is because I do suffer from the spot picking habit of which im trying my best to stop though its begining to get hard particully with whiteheads. I use nivea 24hr aqua sensation moisturiser which is light but also gives me the right amount of moisturisation which ive been using for months.
I did buy some freederm gel from my work last night, but i bloody left it there because i felt i needed something stronger than sudocrem and something that penetrated the skin better. What do you use on your spots?
I get blackheads too but i think because ive been leaving my skin to its own devises these blackheads have turned into whiteheads. if i pick these whiteheads to get the pus out then i will be back where i started which is what i did yesterday and i regret doing it because i had red marks all over my face for hours which wasnt fun.
So i have been doing the proper skincare routine and trying to drink as much water as my body needs so i know im doing my best on that front. I am also 20 and i know my skin care type varies a lot but this is the stage at which im trying to fix all this and stop it from varying so much. i just need something to get rid of these whitehead when i get them. the odd one is ok but i get quite a lot as i had a lot of blackheads and i need to get rid of them without picking. x
Thank you chloe thats some really great advice. Though i wouldnt say i have dry skin either. Grr what do i do? Ive just posted more details on the products i use. Also, the whiteheads are like you said, theyre not really whiteheads because when i do squeeze them it is hard stuff. they are more like little bumps with stuff inside. (sorry if tmi). x
