Question:
How do I get off the skincare product merry go round?
Sorry that heading doesn't make sense LOL!
My skin is really rubbish at the moment, I have been trying one product after another for many years now and I have forgotten what it was like when I started but I am sure it was better than this. Probably like many of us I have tried tonnes of stuff, Gatineaux, Elemis, Garnier, Simple, Henry Tianus and many others I forget. I persevere with most of them and then when the bottle runs out try another one but my skin has become more and more blotchy.
How do I go back to the beginning when I don't know what the beginning is? Can I start afresh and if so how?
Sorry just needed to rant! ;)
I think it would be best to cut out everything else such as masks, treatments etc if you are using them and for a while just use cleanser and maybe a toner if you feel like your face isn't totally clean. That way you could introduce masks, exfoliaters, moisturisers and other things one at a time to see if they are really having an effect and which ones best suit your skin.If you are using a gentle, natural cleanser then you should get a good idea of what condition your skin is really in as all you will be doing is cleaning it so you shoul see its true condition.I would reccomend.
Clensers, either dermalogica ultracalming cleanser or liz earle cleanse and polish as they are very gentle and I love them for my skin.
toners, liz earle skin boost tonic or tea tree water from lush.
Moisturisers, liz earle light moisturiser
Mask, lush mask of magnaminty
I would also recommend a decleor aromessence oil to suit your skin type as they are lovely.
As above said, you'll never know what your skin really needs as you are using so much stuff you don't know which is working. I recommend going back to basics, and maybe even using dove soap as a cleanser and toning with cold cold wate (a few people on these boards, including me, find this does the job perfectly).
From then you build up your bits and find out what really works for you. Also, a lot of people on here have deff said that the higher end stuff doesn't always work as well as some of the cheaper stuff. So try some out :)
Many thanks for your advice. It is true, it seems to be the last few years that I've gone onto the more expensive stuff and none have worked wonders! Although the only one that I had a bad reaction to was Henry Tiamus which caused a breakout after a few days. Thanks for those tips, I will definitely cut out masks etc and possibly even cut out toner and use cold water instead. I will use a light cleanser and moisturiser and also focus on drinking lots of water, and then see what happens.
I'd really recommend trying something a little gentler like Liz Earle products - a lot of lovely quality ingredients like essential oils are used in them, I have ordered so much from there recently and have been really happy with results.
