Question:
Cosmetic differences between mother and daughter??
Just a fun little thread :D I got thinking after a discussion with my mother. She's 50-something and has never worn makeup in her life. Ever. She uses a cheap (Vaseline I think) hand cream and the occasional Nivea night cream for her face - but never any anti-ageing cream, toner, anti-cellulite stuff or hair dye (she's almost completely grey now) and definitely no makeup! She's a very proud person I think - washes with soap and water, and uses whichever shampoo is on the bath rack. She has very good skin for her age as well  although it is quite downy.
As you can guess, this makes for differences of opinion! I don't use makeup excessively; my personal view of makeup is that it should enhance, not change, your natural appearance. Whether I "need" to use makeup (according to my mother) is another question, but I definitely couldn't live without my cleanse-tone-moisturise system now ;)
Anyway, we got onto this conversation when I was blathering on about Lush products and how I wanted to get some (thanks, Bag! :D ), and she told me that she had a) never worn makeup in her life, even when she was my age and b) was "disappointed" that I've been "taken in" by cosmetic companies, who apparently use advertising to convince me I need their products look good!
I wasn't sure what to make of this, but she was doing it in a motherly sort of way. That is, the sort of 'I disapprove but if it makes you happy you can do it' kind of way. Does anyone else have cosmetic disagreements with their mothers/sisters/friends?
Afterthought: My mum is an ageing hippy (or wannabe, anyway ;) ) She listens to Pink Floyd and Kate Bush, and would rather go to a folk music festival than go shopping. This probably has something to do with it
Afterthought 2: My point I made about advertising... Isn't that the whole point of Ads? To convince us that we need the products? Anyway, my point still stands, my mum thinks as soon as I see a new product on TV I rush out and buy it
My mum has no real beauty routine. She washes with an average household soap, doesn't use toner, and moisturises with Pond's cream. I doubt she does this at night, or even every day. She didn't moisturise at all 'til about 5 years ago. She never uses body ltion either  . I guess her skin doesn't look bad for her age. She'll be 50 soon and she probably looks about 45-50. She did start having her hair dyed for a while, but has given up on that. She's not that grey anyway though. Her skin is very soft on her face, and she has the average amount of wrinkles for her age.
She probably thinks i'm silly for moisturising all the time and would laugh at the idea of toner. Ah well.
ETA: I did catch her looking at her hands the other day though after looking at an article in the Daily Mail about how your hands give away your true age. I doubt that this means she will take their advice to use an SPF handcream though.
My mum is the same! Ive only just got her to moisturise. Shes never dyed her hair. She still have jet black hair. The thing that annoys me is that I spend loads on expensive skincare products and I have noticed im getting fine lines under my eyes whereas my mum doesnt have a single wrinkle!!

There's probably a lesson here somewhere  I'm the same, although I haven't noticed fine lines yet (I hope!). I don't use expensive products really, most of my skincare stuff is Nivea.
