Body Shop Selling out to L'Oreal???
  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4744338.stm
This hit the news yesterday, I cannot believe that Body Shop would sell out to one of the great animal testers of the beauty world:eek:
It would stop me shopping there thats for sure

Answers:

I am sure tbs wouldn't sell out to L'oreal - it would be against everything that tbs was set up for.

Body Shop said it had not received an approach from L'Oreal
Maybe l'Oreal want to improve their image and have an 'ethical product range' too!
Body Shop make-up has gone downhill over the past few years , and their prices too high IMO anyway :meh:

It's all over The Guardian this morning. The general view is that there's no way it ought to work, but that it might happen anyway. L'Oreal aren't into 'natural' or no animal testing, and they've never owned shops as part of their business. However there's a recent trend for multinationals to buy up high-end niche brands to improve their quality profile (Unilever/Ben & Jerry's, Cadbury/Green & Blacks), and L'Oreal have certainly picked their moment. TBS seems to have lost its way lately and can't decide what it stands for or even where to position itself in the market, and Anita R appears to see herself now as a global campaigner (political prisoners is her latest) rather than concentrating on the environment and fair trade. They're offering a good share price, so it'll be down to Anita and whether she sticks to her principles or takes the money and runs, maybe justifying it by using the money to fund other campaigns. Also, she and Mr R aren't the majority shareholders - that honour goes to the garage owner who lent her £4,000 to set up her second shop, and in the past he's got quite shirty about wanting his pound of flesh....
It'll be interesting, because of course it could give the other big players ideas, then set up a bidding war!

Will definitely be an interesting economically (now there's a phrase I never thought I'd use ;) ). Either way, I hope TBS' values and ethics don't get lost in L'Oreal's less-than-perfect practices. Although Glamour is right, IMO TBS has gone downhill a bit lately
