Question:
Electrolysis
Hello!
Thinking of getting my upper lip done after reading all the threads here, but wondering if anyone can personally recommend anywhere in birmingham?
Hairzapper you mentioned that electrolysis can be inefficient if done incorrectly (you referred a lady who'd had regular treatments for over 8 years and you zapped all hair in twelve hours?) I really dont to waste any time or money!! So if anyone can recommend someone i'd be truly grateful.
Thanks in advance ladies

It's a pain but getting 2 or 3 sample treatments and consultations is worth it, and if you really don't want to take a chance then it's probably best to go for someone who does it fulltime www.electrolysis.co.uk
Also, if you have a local college that does beauty therapy then you can have treatment there. It's slower but they are supervised so you should get a good treatment.
It's just a matter of being aware of what's happening really. The lady I mentioned just didn't even think to question her therapist. On the other hand you do have to be patient. At first it'll seem like nothing is happening but then you'll start getting patches of clear skin which means you're nearly there. One important thing, when the longer, thicker hairs have gone the tiny little ones will seem more obvious to you, but they are unnoticeable. Don't remove them as it'll take forever, and it's a waste of time. Just the long ones!
Thanks hairzapper!
I had a look at the website you mentioned, the only person in central birmingham is working at regis in house of fraser. Thats where my sister went for two years, regular treatment and saw no difference.
But i suppose it depends on the therapist. I'm suprised to see that only one therapist working at h of fraser is registered - does that mean the other therapists practising electrolysis aren't as qualified or something?
Sorry if thats a silly question!
And about only having the long hairs done - i think i should explain myself - about 6 years ago i started going to a salon to have my upper lip threaded. And i began plucking the odd hair in between treatments. And the odd hair became odd few hairs, and in between treatments became every other day... i'm at a point now where i've quit the threading, and i seem to be tweezing my upper lip hairs every day. Its such a pain and i'm soo embarassed, enough is enough i just want something more long term. I know electrolysis may not be permanent but i just want to get to the stage where i'm going in once a month and i no longer resemble a man with a 5 o'clock shadow every evening.
Thanks again

Oh that's a shame about the birmingham person. It's a voluntary organisation so it's not compulsory to join. Other people who do electrolysis but aren't registered are still qualified. The next step is to check your local salons and independant beauty therapists to see if they offer it, and then get a few consultations to see which therapists seems to be doing it right. If the hair doesn't feel like its being plucked then it should be ok. Only problem is you might get the hard sell for other removal methods.
