Question:
Make up people!
After all this make up talk it's got me thinking about people that wear make up and people that don't. I work in a school and I would say there are only 2 of us that wear make up! I love wearing colour on my eyes and either wear eyeshadow or shimmery eyeshadow with liquid eyeliner, I always wear blusher so I have a rosy glow and either lipstick or gloss depending on whether I am playing up the eyes or not. I don't think that's excessive and I don't look overly made up but sometimes I feel really self conscious about wearing make up in a world of naked faces.
Anyone know what I mean?
Well I guess it is a personal thing really - self pride. some people maybe cannot be bothered, or don't get up in time!
I work in a care home, so cannot wear too much even if i wanted to, usually eye liner / mascara, and maybe highlighter or colour on the eyes, and a bit of lippy and maybe blusher, nothing fancy. Most of the girls wear none - one or two wear lippy and nowt else!
I think so - it's such a variable thing, though! For instance, I wouldn't wear sparkly/coloured shadow as it wouldn't suit me; ditto frosted or pale lipstick.
I certainly wouldn't judge anyone by the make-up they wore as in effectiveness to do their job, though sometimes I might think someone wore too much!
I used to worry about make-up and 'girly' appearance, especially just after I read Germaine Greer, but now I just think it's a fun thing to do and it's preparing for the day/evening. It's creative!
I worried most about it 4 years ago, when I was 'sacked' from a job (basically they told me I could sign a resignation letter, not go back and have a month's salary) and I found out later that they thought I was having an affair (or plural) with older men in the company..that really bothered me as sure, I had bleached blonde hair at the time, but had never so much as kissed anyone there (despite being single and a lot of attention), I really would absolutely deck a company now for suggesting that..
I'm sure you look lovely made up for the day's work and others envy you.
xx
For work, I think for most people it depends on one of two things; how confident you feel with a bare face or how much time you are willing to spend in the mornings.
I'm a teacher in Japan and in Japanese culture it is practically unheard of for women to go to work without hair/make up completely done. Even some of my teenage students tell me that they need to get up at 6:00 in order to spend an hour getting ready. Some of my colleagues look, to me, "overdone" and inappropriate with false nails and the full works (foundation/blusher/powder/eye shadow/liner/lipstick and Barbie hair) but students and other staff think they are glamourous!
I'm not a morning person and am always running late so my make up is usually completed in three minutes (mascara/concealer under the eyes/powder) and hair quickly clipped up! However, I know that I look fine with just a little make up on so I don't care. A few years ago, however, I suffered from really bad adult onset acne and completely lost my confidence and had to spend 20 minutes just covering up my face before I could leave the house. But, the main problem for me was having to get up so much earlier to spend time on my face!
I have two foreign colleagues here who never wear make up. Both have lovely skin and are the type who can't be bothered in the mornings so that's fine. However, I can't understand why they never wear just a little make up when they go out. Pretty much everyone looks better with a little make up as compared to nothing. I still only spend 5-10 minutes doing my make up when I go out, but enjoy doing/wearing it then.
Wearing make up for me depends where I am going or what I am doing.I went to my mum's the other weekend put a full face of make up on and on the train after meeting with my mum's OH he asked me about my impetigo and then said"you rarely wear make up so it won't be irritated or started by that will it?".Ihave now got rid hopefully finally of the impetigo and that's on the back fo my neck if I ever get it,but he nearly had a fit when I sat there and said "Right at this moment in time I have foundation concealer, powder eyeshadow mascara eyeliner and lipstick on" he thought I wasn't wearing make up at the time.
At the moment for work I don't wear make up i work in a factory and can't be bothered.
