Gutted - Prescriptives Custom Blend
Question:

Gutted - Prescriptives Custom Blend

Since reading NoAddedSugar's thread on Prescriptives Custom Blend foundation I have spent the last 10 days or so getting more and more excited about buying some of this for myself. So last night me and my bf went to Selfridges and I asked if I could have it done...:)
The SA got a few foundation pen things and drew some lines on my face to work out my skin tone, showed me what she was doing, so far so good. She worked out which one was the closest match then went to the display, picked up a bottle of foundation and started applying it to my face
Now I'm thinking "surely this isn't right, isn't she supposed to be mixing all blue and green and orange things together, checking it on my face and then adding a bit more blue until she gets the perfect match??" But no, she applies this foundation then gets the mirror and asks me what I think!
I said that it looked OK, but would she now mix one to get my perfect "custom blend" and she said she didn't need to, that they only did that on people who have difficulty finding the right shade of foundation...
I was completely deflated :( I then had to ask her if the foundation would be suitable for my oily skin (I remember NoAddedSugar saying that they ask loads of questions about your skin type before mixing it for you, but she didn't ask me a single thing!) I then had to ask for a suitable concealer. I then had to ask for a suitable powder as well, and she asked me what my skin type was, even though 2 minutes previously I'd already told her it was oily! :(
I said I'd go away and think about it, and looking closely in some other mirrors around the beauty department it looked OK, but something just wasn't right, I was so looking forward to getting the custom blend and I just felt really disappointed about not getting the same experience as NoAddedSugar!
My lovely bf said if I wanted it he would buy it for me, but I said I couldn't possibly allow him to as it would cost £90 including the foundation brush but he said he honestly didn't mind so in the end I gave in and we went back and bought it. The whole time while he was paying for it though I was thinking this isn't right, I usually feel really excited at this point but I just felt disappointed :(
Anyway, sorry for the very long post but I've tried it this morning and I really wish I had trusted my gut instinct as in broad daylight that is definitely NOT the right shade of foundation for me, it looks too pinky :(
I haven't used the concealer or powder, so they are definitely going back, but I'm going to see if I can get a refund on the foundation as well, as it absolutely is not the right colour. I feel so bad about my bf paying for it all as well, £24 has completely been wasted on the foundation brush as they won't take that back now it's been used will they? :boohoo:
I know a lot of other girls were going to be getting the custom blend done over the last week or so, just wondered if anyone else had been told they didn't need custom blend or am I the only unlucky one?

Oh how disappointing for you :(
I've never had it done so I can't comment on that, but if you're not happy with the shade she's sold you, most definitely take it back. You are entitled to a refund. Hopefully it will be a different SA on who will do the custom blend properly for you.
I'd keep hold of the brush because you'll still be able to use that with whatever foundation you eventually buy (unless it's a completely different texture/formula).
She sounds like she just couldn't be bothered doing it to me. Maybe she was ready for going home  .

oh honey... i would be gutted too! What a dissapointing experience for such an acclaimed product - the whole *point* is its customised and they blatantly didn't try FFS!!
Definately take back the concealer and powder, they should also take back the foundation (speak to a manager if you have to.) Don't worry if you have to keep the foundation brush - its one of the best and you can use it with other products.
Which Selfridges did you go to can I ask? I have to say when I've been in the Oxford Street one its usually just so busy it makes me dizzy! And the service I've had there has been average - thats why I have never gone through with the custom blend as I would expect their full attention for a good half an hour or so.
Bless your boy - he sounds lovely for treating you but if you aren't happy with your purchases, get the money back. Maybe you could speak to a manager and book a consultation/time when you can try again? They should be very eager to redeem themselve!

I was thinking about keeping the brush, but I've been using Lily Lolo mineral foundation for the last 6 months or so, so it won't be any good for that. And having just applied Lily Lolo this morning after cleaning the Prescriptives stuff off, you can see that Lily Lolo is just so right for me - the colour, the finish etc... How could I ever have doubted it?!! :o
I think the SA might have been wanting to go home actually, she sounded like she had a cold and was sniffing constantly when she was putting my foundation on, and when I went back 10 minutes later to buy the stuff she had gone...
It was Selfridges on Oxford Street. I might ring them in a bit to check that they will definitely take it back. I don't even want to get the custom blend now though, last night has just turned me against Prescriptives a bit I'm afraid :(

I am sooooooo sorry this happened to you. Really! I feel like its my fault some how. I can't believe how disinterested she was in you even if she was ill and it was time for her to go home. I went to the exact same counter and both SAs I saw were the complete oposite. Did you happen to notice her name tag? (pm me if so) I wonder if it was the same one who when I first walked up to the counter seemed terrified of doing the custom blend and asked me to come back when her colleague returned from break.
Definitely take it back if you are not happy. In fact I would call the counter at Selfridges and ask to speak to a supervisor and tell them your story. Tell them how you heard such great things about their service and the custom blend only to be treated so badly by their sales associate that its turned you off their brand. Hopefully they will not want to lose a potential new customer and at least offer you a full refund and another go at custom blend.
I'm just really shocked you were treated this way and something has to be done about it. If you want me to help you call them I would be happy too. I really hate bad service...its gets the NewYorker in me all riled uop
Remember you are the customer, you are paying them money. You don't owe them anything they are meant to serve you and put the best face forward for the company they represent not fob people off with stuff they don't want.
Again I am really sorry and very annoyed as I feel like my reputation is now tarnished by this event.
