Question:
Vitamin B5/Pantothenic Acid for acne - anyone know?
I am fed up of my skin which seems particularly oily/spotty lately and I remembered this 'cure' from a while back. I did try it but realised afterwards I hadn't taken a high enough dose of the vitamin.
I've read up on it on the net but can't find anywhere that suggests a good dosage for acne sufferers - does anyone know?
Thanks.
Its alright I found the answer, but it's probably going to be too expensive :cmdunno: for anyone interested, it's recommended you take 10g of B5 a day for 3 months, which if you bought it from H&B it'd work out about £45 a month in tablets!
:faint:
What about zinc supplements? That's good for spots.
Thanks le chat, I've tried zinc before and it didn't do much to help - my acne is pretty much here to stay I think
I may start taking extra and then B5 but in smaller amounts, as I just can't bring myself to take 20 tablets a day at that price!
Becka... I was under the impression that your body can only absorb a certain amount of each vitamin per day and the rest will just be excreted... so like you say, taking 20 tablets a day would probably just be a waste of money.
But on the otherhand I've heard of doctors handing out mega high doses of B5 for depression... surely this wouldn't work if the above statement were true? Unless I have the wrong end of the stick and your body will only absorb a certain percentage of what you put in... in which case, increasing the dose would have an impact.
Oh god who knows, appear to be just rambling now... To be honest I hate the fact that we have to turn our whole lives upside down just to improve the state of our skin, I can't help thinking there must be a really simple solution staring us in the face.
While we're on the subject of simple solutions, something has been lingering at the back of my mind recently...
Do you remember I was v.annoyed because my skin cleared up just as I was about to ask my doctor about roaccutane? Well at that time I hadn't touched a drop of alcohol for two weeks (v.unusual for me)... Anyway, that weekend I went out and had a drink (or five) and the very next day it started to show on my skin... Another week (and another very boozy weekend) later and my skin is now looking terrible.
So now I'm starting to think that there is a very strong connection between my crappy skin and alcohol... which wouldn't be surprising really because it has a pretty negative effect on me generally nowadays. Perhaps I'll have to ditch the party lifestyle for one of a serene health goddess and rice cakes... :(
