eXFOLIATOR
Question:

eXFOLIATOR
hi guys, now that winter is upon us I am finding my face is gettin very dry with patchy skin in areas. I try to exfoliate a couple of times a week and so far the only thing that has been gritty enough to get rid of it is St Ives Apricot Scrub. However, Im now finding even this is as effective as it was. As well as exfoliating I am moisturising twice a day but still cant seem to clear it effectively. Any ideas? Thx xxx

I like No 7 No Grains exfoliator mainly because it isn’t gritty. Some of the ones that are gritty make my skin flare up and make it look a bit red. I have got a few different ones though.
I tend to use the No 7 twice a week and then use Olay Thermal Polisher alongside it too.

I agree with Shazzaspannered. Some of the cheaper brands of exfoliators contain big beads and these aggreviate the skin. I use Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Refiner. The beads are small and they dont irritate my skin at all. I have quite dry skin so I use it twice a week.

I agree with the others that the more gritty ones are more likely to cause more skin probs, a lot of skincare gurus would advise against exfoliating at all, which is why I use the more gentle ones. I use no7 Gentle exfoliating Scrub which has much smaller grains than most. Perhaps it is because you are using such a gritty one that you are stripping away more than you should be which might leave your skin more open to the effects of winter which is then in turn making your skin drier, a bit of a vicious circle thing. Maybe it would be worth trying a gentler one for a couple of weeks together with a good moisturiser..maybe you need to get a different moisturiser to help too. During summer I use my normal moisturiser day and night but I use a night cream by no7 now its winter which seems to be helping against the constant drying caused by central heating vs cold and wind.

Also, are you drinking enough water. I find that in the summer I find it quite easy to get through my 2 and a half litres but in the winter I have to remind myself more.
