Please advise me on boyfriend's skin
Question:

Please advise me on boyfriend's skin
  Hello
A while ago, I got my boyfriend using some Origins products - Checks and Balances Facewash and Matte Scientist moisturising lotion. He had very greasy skin and quite a few spots on his cheeks and chin in particular. He was only washing his skin with water in the shower and not moisturising at all.
The skin care regime helped his skin to be less greasy and was looking good for about 3 months, but now has started to get spotting again. I got him to use Mask of Magnaminty a few times (once a week) and it seemed to give him more spots. I'm not sure if that was because of it drawing out the impurities or what. He hasn't used it for a few weeks and his skin has improved a little now.
The other thing I've noticed is that, since the weather has turned, his skin is dry. I told him that he needed to make sure his skin didn't feel tight after washing and moisturising or it may mean he's not applying his moisturiser thoroughly enough. He's been using more moisturiser but his skin still looks dry on his cheeks. This could also be making his spots worse but prompting the skin to produce more oil. Maybe he needs a heavier moisturiser for winter?
Any ideas ladies? I'm at a bit of a loss and feel guilty now that I may have made things worse. :(

Is he still washing with a cleanser?
Not sure about the origins cleanser you mentioned but maybe get him to use a creamy one, funnily enough many men seem to like Liz Earle.
He should definitely be moisturising after washing, his skin should not be red or tingle or burn after washing if it does he needs to change the cleanser.
You are right that his skin should not feel tight or be red etc after putting on moisturizer.
Like with women, men can have reactions to skincare ingredients so check for chemical sunscreens, perfume/fragrance, benzoil peroxide, cetyl alcohol, petrolium by products, witch hazel...these can all be irritating.
Even though they appear to have tougher skin it can be just as sensitive.
My husband uses the Nivea for Men products (when he remembers) and these seem to be ok for him. Certainly improved his flakiness. Unfortunately he washes his face with English Leather soap

Thanks NoAddedSugar. Yes, he's still using the same cleanser and moisturiser. I picked that cleanser because it's supposed to be gentle but also good for oily skin. I will check the ingredients but it doesn't seem like an allergic reaction because it worked well with his skin for a good few months.
Does your husband have oily skin?

He could still have a reaction though, this happens to me often I use a product for months and then one day my skin rebels.
My husband, like me has combination skin so can be oily but also suffers from dry patches and sensitivity.
It could be that his skin is more sensitive at the moment because of something else like environment, diet or stress. These can often effect how our skin acts and reacts.

Purps,
I've read articles that you really need to use the same skincare product for a minimum of 6 months to see if it works and is suitable for your skin. Too many people try a product, don't like it after using it for a couple of weeks then change to something else and this messes up the skin.
Some products do cause an outbreak of spots (drawing out impurities as you said) so you need to try it for longer to be sure that it works.
A friend of mine uses Liz Earle products and has seen an amazing change in her skin (she has spots too) so I would recommend them!
xx
