Question:
When did you first start wearing makeup....
....& what did you wear? :D
I didn't start wearing makeup until I was about 12 but that was because I started getting spots around that time & needed to cover them up so I only really wore foundation/concealer depending on how much coverage I needed. It wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 that I started wearing a bit more & got into mascara, lipgloss & blusher. I did wear nail varnish quite a lot when I was a bit younger though. I started getting into that when I was about 9 or 10 & thought I was soooo grown -up!!! My nails used to be every colour of the rainbow & embarrassingly I went through a phase of alternating colours (so if the colours were gold & silver, I'd have one nail silver & one nail gold etc) or having a different colour on each nail. :o
It's only been in the last two or three years that I've become obsessed with makeup! :D I now experiment a lot more with colour whereas I always used to be very 'safe' with my makeup & stick to neutral shades. I guess that was better in a way though as I personally think that you should try to keep your skin free of makeup as long as possible & don't think young girls look right caked in makeup anyway as it makes them seem like they're trying too hard to be older. I do find makeup a lot more fun now - before it was always a bit of a chore but I now appreciate how much it can enhance your features. :) I do miss the days where I could wake up, run a brush through my hair & be ready though.... *dreamysmiley*
So, over to you lot! When did you first start wearing makeup & also, how old do you think girls should be when they start wearing it? :)

I didnt start wearing makeup until after uni! I guess I just didnt have the time to properly experiment with it. It didnt interest me like it does now! Ive become quite obessive now and I think after much trial and error, Ive found the shades and products that suit me.
I agree with you Lisa, its a shame to see young girls with so much makeup on. At that age, most girls have beautiful skin and to see it caked in layers of makeup makes me cringe. I think under 12 is too young to be wearing makeup.
I was probably around 11 when i first started wearing concealer for spots and used to buy the off cheap lipgloss, usually with a goldy sheen that made me look dead
I was probably like this til around 15-16ish where i had a bit of a dark eyeliner thing going on.
I started reading these boards when i was around 17 which gave me the push to go to MAC on my 18th birthday and have the full make over. Have never turned back!
I think minimal make up is ok for under 16's. I'd be ok with my daughter using concealer to cover spots from a young age and around 12-13ish wearing lipgloss and mascara but i hate seeing young girls with the full works and usually doing it badly :head:
Probably about 14.
Lisa, I was very similar to you.
I started using my mothers blush and lipstick around age 12 and then bought some foundation around age 13, Covergirl, a brand you can't get here. At 14 my friends mother worked at Saks 5th Avenue at the Estee Lauder Counter so she used to give me sample sizes from the give aways sometimes. My friend got Clinique stuff because of her Mothers' staff discount. The rest of us were so jealous.
I started wearing makeup regularly later that year and added eyeliner, usually shimmery blue because that is what you did when you had blue yes back then. Oh and electric blue mascara! well it was the 80s :hucks: I think I wore nearly the same stuff till I was just turning 18 and experimented with eyeshadow and black mascara, but I think I had the same colour lipstick as my mother.
I went through a stage between 18-21 where I rarely wore make-up or not very much. Back then I didn't have the rosacea so my skin was much better looking. However, there was this brand, I don't know if it was in the UK but you get it in the regular drugstore like boots etc. They had a computer and you answered questions about skin type and colour and it would recommend products from its line. It was pretty cool and the colours it suggested did work for me but I still rarely put them on.
At some point in my early to mid twenties I discovered my own shade of lipstick instead of my mothers but wore pretty much the same one for years. I also only wore eyeliner on the top lid, usually the liquid pen type in either black or brown and black mascara and no blush and that was my look for a very long time.
I wore L'Oreal foundation exclusively though until my late twenties when I started trying department store brands and then started to play with eyeshadows and lipsticks and various looks.
Now I'm a make-up junkie, I guess because I am always searching for the perfect look.
