30 and STILL have bad skin - help!!
Question:

30 and STILL have bad skin - help!!
I desperately would like any advice you can offer. Im 30 in a couple of months and still getting spots on forehead and chin. Now they're not major bad acne but i always have some.
I have suffered since my teens and been on Roacctuane 3 times
The last time being this time last year for 4 months. I then got given a cream deriative of Roacctuane (alot milder than teh tablets) to help if probelms arose. But it doesn't really.
Im at a loss of what to do, when I see a dermatologist they simply dish out roaccutane - nothing about skin care or analysis of my skin type or anything really.
I used to use Organic Pharmacy Carrot Cleanser and Manuka Cream but then switched to Dermalogica products recommended after my facial...with no results.
Im pretty healthy, veg, water, etc etc but doesn't help.
Is anyoen else out there like me? If so any suggestions? I can see me heading back to docs but I dream of a permanent solution...

Hi Coops,
I know what it's like to feel that you should have grown out of spots by now! If you've been down the dermatologist route, Roaccutane, Retin-A etc, and tried the pill in case it's hormonal, the only thing left is trial and error. And if you stick around the board, you'll soon learn that what suits one person gives another massive breakouts (aren't I being a cheery little soul  ).
Seriously, it's an expensive business finding out what works for you. Having tried all the expensive stuff, the best for me is Boots Botanics Pore Perfecting range, plus glycolic acid. But there's no one magic cure I'm afraid.
Good luck

Thanks BJ, can I ask what is glycolic acid? What do you do with it??
Im a bit clueless:lol:

Glycolic acid peels away the dead cells on the surface of the skin, so that they don't clog the pores and cause spots. You can get it in various strengths, up to 50% on the web, but it's the active ingredient in L'Oreal's Renoviste kit at 10% strength which is not a bad place to start. You leave the solution on for a few minutes, then neutralise with an alkali (remember GCSE Chemistry: acid + alkali = salt + water !!) so that it doesn't burn. The neutraliser comes as part of the Renoviste kit.

I'm right there with you! 26 and, if anything, my skin is gradually getting worse.
I did stumble onto one anti-biotic which worked a treat and for about 6 months my skin was amazing, but I experienced a very nasty side effect with the tablets (they increased the pressure in my skull) and so I had to stop.
So since then I have been taking a different antibiotic but I dont think its making much of a difference and to be honest I dont want to be taking them forever anyway, so I'm looking for a more permanant solution too.
One thing I do do is pick at my skin. Its a purely habit thing and I'm really trying to stop because my skin improves quite dramatically when I do. Its stupid really.
Also, over the last couple of weeks I have been going to the gym religiously (ie daily for an hour) rather than just a couple of times a week and that seems to have had a positive effect on my skin recently.
Did you get any nasty side effects from Roaccutane, part of me thinks I'd be willing to try anything but another part of me thinks there must be a more obvious simple solution.
