Question:
Silk nails keep splitting
Hi, after saying I wouldn't have false nails again after having acrylics two years ago and them wrecking my nails, I decided to have silk ones on the advice of my friend who has them and says they are better for your nails. I went to this nail bar of her recommendation and the lass there did them fine and I was well pleased with them, only two weeks later two of my nails split right across the centre. I had to have them soaked off and redone (just the two that split), when I soaked them off I was horrified to find my actual nails had split half way down, right where my skin is. Anyway the lass just put new tips on and didn't say much about how it would have happened. So I had all the infills done only a week ago and two nails have split again! I paid for another friend to have hers done for her birthday two weeks ago and all hers have split.
On Saturday I was talking to the lass who does my eyebrows. She only does acrylic nails which is why I didn't go to her to have them done but she told me they don't wreck your nails if they are done properly, when I had them done before those drills were used. I am tempted to go to her for acrylics, after all they are cheaper and she is much more professional than the other lass, she wears a uniform and makes conversation and explains all what she does, the other lass wears a track suit and doesn't say anything or give any advice.
Are silk nails supposed to split like this does anyone know?
Dont really know that much about silk nails tbh, but what I would say is that it is usually poor or incorrect application of product and incorrect use of tools that causes false nails to ruin nails. Bad technicians make bad nails!!
Im sure some of the others will be able to give you more info about the merits of one type of enhancement over another - I have acrylics on my nails and have never really got on with any of the other types, but some people dont like acrylics at all.
I personally think acrylics get a bad rap and it makes me laugh when people come on posting about how much better gel is for your nails -they are all pretty much the same at the end of the day!

Hav eto agree. I got gel ones done for 2 mths during Summer and my real nails are as damageda s they were when I got acrylics done when I was 19.
My nails are full of ridges and a couple are split down the middle of the nailbed and they'll never be rectified now!:rolleyes:
