Question:
Continuous Wear contact lenses - please read if you wear them!
Just a quick post.
I wore these lenses for about 6 years with no problems and thought they were great.
However I have now been told by my optician that I had a scratch on my cornea and had to wear my glasses for a few weeks:(
Now I have been recommended never to got back to continuous wear ones which is a real blow to me as I LOVED them. I am super short sighted (-8.25) and hate having to go back to the monthly ones as I was so used to the other type. But obviously keeping my eyes healthy is the number one priority.
Not wanting to scare anyone but I would just recommend if you have this type of lens to remove a couple of times a week and maybe go for a 'glasses day' or evening when you can.
Some opticians really do not like this type of lens (in fact when I was referred to eye casualty with the problem they told me they would never wear this type:( ) I went to spec savers for years and they never warned me and as soon as I switched to ASDA they were really reluctant to sell me this type. (odd really that they are made at all then, and they are the most expensive available so their concerns must be genuine or else they would just flog the most expensive ones seeing as I begged them for the lenses!)
Just be carefull please! j x
Thanks for this. I'm on o2 monthly disposables from asda and they are fab and cost £26 for 3 pairs. I really wanted to try the 24 hrs ones but Asda advised against them, glad they did now:)
I had these lenses about 5 years ago - they were fine for the first few months and then I woke up with my eyelids really swollen - and I was told it was due to the build up on the lenses!!! I had to wear glasses for a week, and then change to daily disposables. My friend has also changed from these bcos of the same problem!
Swollen eyelids sound horrible! I must have been so lucky to go 6 years without a problem I think.
Asda must really not like these lenses, wonder why they sell them if they don't recommend them to customers?!
I suppose it is the same as laser eye surgery, I have heard that no one that performs this would ever get it done themselves...
In fact all the opticians i have gone to have worn glasses... Going off on a tangent now but maybe they don't like wearing lens at all... Just my overactive imagination there sorry!

JAy Jay you may find that some opticians dont actually NEED glasses and they are clear glass ones. I suppose they sell them but sdont recommend them as they have to have that range to appear competitive and also may need to sell them to be bable to sell other stuff from the manufacturer?
Mr K wore 24 hours lenses until the last 2 weeks as he had the same problem - build up that caused infection, he's now on daily disposable like me - like I told him aggggeeesss ago. ;)
