Question:
Please help with eczema
Hi, I have very dry skin and eczema. What skin products do you recommend I try - also make up. I am currently using some facial wipes (unscented ones) and a powder foundation which is fragrance free also. For my moisturiser I use Oilatium face cream but it isn't really doing much for me. I don't want to use anything too expensive as I don't have a lot of spare money.
If you're using wipes make sure they're alcohol free or they will be very drying.
I would advise you to use a creamy cleanser - a wipe on, wipe off cleanser for night to remove make up and a gentle foaming cleanser for the morning.
Use a night cream - with dry skin especially it is essential as your skin absorbs most moisture while you sleep. Use a light daily moisturiser, and don't be afraid to reapply during the day.
Products I'd reccomend are The Body Shop (of course :o - I do apologise for my limited reccomendations!!!!!) Aloe Vera or Jojoba range, probably aloe is best if you are sensitive to fragrance - if you pop into your local store they'll be happy to help you out. Come see me in Burnley if you're nearby :D
For localised moisture to patches of eczema, the TBS hemp face protector, or even the really thick hand protector, are both for dry and irritated skins. My aunt swears by the hemp range - I'm not too keen on the scent to be honest, but some people love it. The Aloe cooling body gel is also great if you get that burning feeling - it'll cool it right down. I get really awful shaving rash and it always helps.
Make up wise, as long as you use a moisturising base, everything else should be fine as nothing else touches your face. Make sure you set it with a powder though as moisturising base tends to be more prone to transferring.
Hope that helps hun :) I know eczema is a pain in the bumcrack
I would advise to go to the doctor and stress how the eczema is impacting on your life...I was prescribed Eumovate for the eczema on the back of my neck and it cleared it up immediately :yay:
Thanks for your replies. I do use alcohol free wipes, they are the Simple ones and seem quite gentle. I wondered if a foaming facial wash might be too drying but do you think they are OK as long as they are fragrance free? I do fancy using a face wash. I just use E45 wash cream in the mornings but its quite thick and my skin seems a bit spotty at the moment and I am wondering if this is why.

The TBS aloe vera foaming face wash is alcohol, fragrance and preservative free - it is incredibly gentle. I use it - my skin is very sensitive to oil balance - and it washes it just enough to remove grime but not enough to strip my skin. Honestly, I absolutely love it.
Thicker creams can clog your pores and cause spots - a great moisturiser doesn't have to be thick and heavy.
