Chipped Gel Overlay
Question:

Chipped Gel Overlay
  Hi Girls,
I have very bendy nails so couple of weeks ago I had gel overlays to strengthen them. No extensions or anything, just a french manicure, and they look totally natural which was what I wanted.
However, I have managed to chip the corner of my thumb nail. The gel is cracked and I'm afraid of it catching and dragging, which is also why I havent filed it off, its at an awkward angle.
I tried to seal it down with topcoat but its not happening.
I was just wondering f anyone else has any experience of them cracking/chipping? If its going to require a lot of maintenance then I'm not sure I have the time to run forward and back to the beauty salon.....
Ta!!

No enhancement is indestructable, you wouldn't want them to be as you could potentially permenantly damage the nailbed if they didn't break under pressure.
If you have bendy nails naturally it's not unusual to have problems with free edge chipping - your nail is still bendy and if you bash/catch your nail it will flex and the overlay can become detached and chip.
Your technician can help to minimise the problem by ensuring the free edge is 'capped' - this basically means the product extends just ever so slightly over the end of the free edge to ensure any impact sustained is on the product not the nail.
However, we can't stop the forces of physics and stop all damage happening.
I always advise my clients that extensions and enhancements are costly, time consuming and take dedication, but are worth it
