Question:
lumpy armpits?? help!
hello
this is probably the wrong place to ask but im most likely to get more replies here.
basically for the last 2-3 months i have started getting really painful lumps in my armpits. i havent properly checked whether it co incides with my cycle but its certainly not like a few days before my period- more like 1-2 weeks before it. when i first got them i got really scared- i thought i had breast cancer even though im only 19! anyway went to the gp and she said its probably nothing and will go away. and yes they did. but they came back a few weeks later!!
this month however i have 4 in one armpit and 2 in the other. the first 2-3 days i had them i was in so much pain i couldnt even lift anything. having spoken to a few friends i found that theyve had these at some point too but mine seem to be a lot more recurrent.
so basically- have any of you had anything like this? if so- what do you do??
I would definately go back to your gp, especially as they're causing you so much pain.
You've got lymph nodes (part of the immune system) under your arms. These can get swollen when your body's fighting infection. Of course only your doctor can tell you why they're swollen in your case.
I've only had the mild pains you get with time of the month. It sounds like you have something different. Don't let your doctor shrug you off, insist on some answers.
i had a the same problem a couple of years ago,my doctor told me they were caused by blocked pores.
Doesnt sound very nice but deodourant was blocking up my pores and they were getting infected and causes these little painful lumps to appear under my arms(little as in about half a 5p piece in size!!)
He suggested washing them twice a days and NOT using and deodourant until they went away!:(
(Which,as you can imagine, was very "not nice"!!!):)

By deodorant, I assume you mean anti-perspirant, as deodorant doesn't block the pores.
Dooz, definitely go back to your GP but in the meantime, I would leave off the anti-perspirant as they are a common cause of underarm problems.
firstly thanks for all your replies.
secondly i have actually stopped using deodrant (even though its this mineral thing which is supposed to be very safe) just in case.
i started my period today :o so maybe they are afterall linked to my cycle.
i'm going to see the doctor tommorrow and pester him to tell me what wrong. will let you all know how it goes
thanks again!:
ps- davinia: mine start off kind of pea sized but by the next day become more like the size of a 50p coin :( they are even quite noticeable so no sleeveless tops for me
