Question:
Is it bad for your skin to wear foundation everyday?
Hi everyone
I've been battling with my skin for years as it has never really looked nice - it always seems to be a bit clogged, grey looking and an uneven tone. Consequently, ever since I discovered foundation, I have worn it every day to cover my skin and make it look nicer...even if I am just staying indoors myself. I normally wear pressed powder, mascara, eyeliner and eyebrow pencil everyday too and I was beginning to wonder if perhaps this had soemthing to do with the state of my skin? What do you think? For the past couple of days I have tried to come to work without my foundation and just a little bit of bronzer instead (still have all my eye make-up on though!) I thought this might let my skin 'breathe' but tbh its terrifying for me to look in the mirror without my foundation....all my blackheads and uneven colour is on show :( I guess its just a matter of getting used to my naked face but do you think that laying off the foundation and only using it on special occasions might help my skin to look better?
Thanks ladies :)
I'm not sure. If your foundation is non-comodegenic (sp?) it won't have an effect on your skin really. I have worn various foundations every day for the last 10 years and my skin has at times been wonderful and rubbish, so I don't believe the foundation has any effect. Are you cleansing properly and using clean brushes to apply it?
Unfortunately, some of us just have rubbish skin, end of. I know there's things you can use to treat it and improve it but I don't think it's a direct consequence of a certain product being used. What's your lifestyle and diet like? Smoking, lack of exercise, too many late nights and alcohol and pollution etc can all make skin look naff. Also eating too much sugary stuff and not enough fresh, raw food won't help.
What products do you currently use?
Obviously wearing foundations inhibits some of the skin's ability to breathe but, as beckabunga says, some are far better than others.
As long as you take your makeup off before bed, you skin has time to breathe and recover at night. What products do you use? Have you tried Origins 'Never a dull moment' face polisher. I use this about twice a week and I think it's great for brightening up the skin. You should also look at things like how much water you drink, what vitamins you take, what your diet is like, whether you're getting enough sleep etc.

I think my lifestyle is pretty good - I don't smoke, I'm almost fanatical about having a healthy diet, I get loads of sleep every night and I can barely remember the last time I consumed alcohol. I am a bit guilty of never exercising though and I worry and stress about EVERYTHING. I notice that when I am feeling relaxed then my skin isn't as bad - perhaps that could be it?Maybe my skincare routine has something to do with it too as I don't really use expensive products? I make sure I take my make-up off every night though and I cleanse and moisturise it morning and night. I exfoliate 3-4 times a week and steam and use a face mask once a week. I know my 'no foundation theory' is probably garbage as my sister wears 3 times as much foundation as me every day and has the most gorgeous flawless skin I have ever seen (so doesn't even need to wear foundation!!) But she's a really laid back person that never worries about anything (I'm starting to like this no stress = beautiful skin idea!) I'm just getting a bit deperate and thought I would give it a try. I don't have enough money to splash out on facials and fancy skincare treatments - they all seem to be so expensive :(
Never mind, at least its saving me about half an hour getting ready in the morning - even if I do look pertifying!
I think, like ms bunga said;) , that it could just be the skin you have.:( I would recommend using products containing glycolic or saliycic acid to unclogg your skin
I have friends and myself who have tried this and this
which gives really great results to skin over a short period of time.
