Question:
French Manicure
Hi there,
Does anyone have any tips on applying the white varnish neatly to the tip of the nail when doing your own french manicure?

I hardly ever give myself a french manicure but when I do, I use a set that a friend got me from Sephora. :) It's got the nude, white & clear coloured varnish & then also some nail shaped stickers that you stick on the tips of your nails, however far down you want the white tips to go & then you just paint away. I had my nails done for me once by someone who was studying beauty therapy & she said to paint the white tip on first, then put the nude varnish over the top & then seal with the clear varnish.
I haven't seen any sets like mine in the shops but I'm sure if you root around you're bound to find one. I'll have a look online for you & let you know if I find anything. :)

ETA: Forgot to say that Bourjois do a nail varnish for white tips that has an angled brush to make it easier to apply - here it is...
Most french manicure kits come with sticker guides to use but for freehand the key is practice practice practice!
I find it a lot easier to use an eyeliner brush when applying the white tips, and like Lisa said, always paint the whites first and then the colour.

I am really lucky in that when my nails grow the tips grow bright white anyway, I have no idea why but I have loads of people say they wish theirs would grow that way and that they are very jealous.
I have tried a couple of times to do my own french manicure. I usually apply the white varnish on the tip and then coat with the pale colour (pink or peach) then put a top coat of clear on.
I have a kit that has some of those guides to paint the white tips on but they never seem to work properly, the key is practicing doing them.
You can also buy those white pencils that you use on the nail to create a white tip, I don’t know how good they are meant to be.
