Question:
problems with ezcema and rashes
Not sure whether this should be in health but my eczema has flared up and i have a rash with coming off medication, i can deal with this but my ankle is particulary bad. I need a cream that will not only help it to heal but also reduce the marks and scarring. I've used hydroycortisone (sp) and eumovate and they help with reducing the redness etc... but i'm left with a big mark and then it itches again and the cycle goes on... Any suggestions?
Thanks
I suffer from this too, go to your docs and ask for betnovate or something strong, I have had nearly every steroid cream going!! Other than that, get yourself in the sun, always clears mine up without fail! (sensibly of course).
Mind you I only found out the other week that steroid creams only last 4 weeks once opened!!!
Didn't realise they still make benovate, do they still do it in a cream or is it that awful ointment that gets everywhere?

Erm to be honest, I've not had it in a little while but my sis in law is still using it, not sure which kind though...
Only reason I don't use it now is coz the doc gave up on me and sent me to the hospital for all treatment now, and he gave me £45 worth of prescriptions, so now I use my own methods instead!!!
elliee, I use Betnovate, and it comes in both a cream and ointment. The ointment is not as greasy as it used to be (I shudder at the memory!), and I actually prefer it to the cream now as it just sinks into my dry skin.
As for the endless cycle of flare ups, you need to get to the bottom of what may be causing them, although at the moment I would imagine it is this heat wave. In terms of treatment, dont be afraid of using a stronger steriod cream like Betnovate for a short period of time as opposed to a weaker one for a longer period. As for the scarring, I was told by my dermatologist that the only way this can be reduced is if I stop itching and the existing ones will fade with time. Easy for her to say! But she is right of course. So I really recommend having a look at a book called 'The Eczema Solution' by Sue Armstrong-Brown (should be available at your local library) to help you control the itch and find the best way to use medication.
HTH :) PM if you have anymore Qs.
