Question:
Chewing and sucking his hands red raw...!!
HELP!!! My little boy has decided that his teething toys are no good and prefers to munch on his hands all day and they are now red raw and look very very very sore. I've been prescribed Diprobase cream but it's not doing much - mainly because after he has it on, he just munches at them again.
Can anyone recommend what I can do to stop him doing this???
Thanks

This may be a complete stab in the dark but it is the only thing I can think of - could you put some gloves on him? I know that's not very practical as it is now summer and boiling hot!! Plus, he'll probably just take them off, but if you could somehow find some thin gloves just to protect his skin and give it a chance to recover then that might help? Or maybe wrap a thin bandage around his hands?
Sorry that's not very helpful is it! I hope you manage to sort it, the poor thing :(
Aww poor love. I dont think other than gloves there is anything you can do to physically stop him chewing his hands and you have to be careful what you put on his hands because it will go straight in his mouth. I would try and keep his hands as dry as you can during the day (easily said than done i know), and i would use this ointment at night when hes asleep. It should be safe enough as it is suitable for mothers who are breastfeeding.
I used it by the bucket loads when my children were babies.

You could paint his nails/fingers with the stuff people use to stop them biting their nails! It tastes really bad and bitter so that will stop him putting his fingers in his mouth. I can't remember what its called but you can buy it from Boots and Superdrug

That was going to be my suggestion to. It looks like clear nail varnish. My mum used to use it on my sister to stop her from sucking her thumb. It might work better than the gloves because once he realises his fingers taste vile, it might break the habit altogether.
