mild acne
Question:

mild acne
hello I am going to the doctors on friday about my skin,i have suffered with spots for a few years im now 22 and still breaking out,im fed up of the way it makes me feel,i dont want to leave the house sometimes,so i think it is time i went to the doctors.
I have been on bcp before and that has helped to keep my skin clear but they dont really agree with me and make me very moody and depressed so i really dont want to go on them again.
I would say my acne is mild but sometimes get sore big inflamed spots but then other times my skin can look good.
Has anyone had any luck with stuff from the doctor,i am going on holiday in 4 weeks and do not want to be worrying about how my skin looks.
I have a red marks left from other spots lots of clogged pores and sometimes get these nasty spots that stop me from leaving the house:( any advice/help is appreciated. Thanks xx

Hi Louisa!
I suffer from bad skin too and a few years ago I went to the doctors about it. He firstly put me on antibiotics (I can't for the life of me remember which) which really helped. They take a while to kick in, but once they do I found them to be quite effective.
Anyway, after a couple of years of being on them I was getting recurring cystitis, and apparently the antibiotics were causing it. So they put me on the contraceptive pill dianette instead. It's magic!! Really is. While I was on it my skin was perfect - I got a few spots around period time, but nothing major. It didn't clear up my pores though :( but as far as the spots go my skin was flawless!
I've had to come off it now as apparently they only allow it as a short-term treatment (I was on it for 18 months). But it really worked for me.
You should really tell the doctor exactly how your skin makes you feel, don't pretend it doesn't upset you. I've found that they take skin problems quite seriously because it affects your psychological status too.
I hope you get on alright :) Let us know how it went (and sorry for the essay)

Thankyou for the reply, ive heard lots of good stuff about dianette but i cant do bcp. It deffinetly does affect my mental state and im going to explain that to him, people tell me my skin isnt even that bad but i have become obsessed with it and to me it is really bad.
Hopefully the doctor will be know what will work for me,id love to not worry about my skin and not have to wear foundation and stuff to leave the house. I know i over react about it but i cant help it.
Thanks anyway and i will let u know what he prescribes me and how it goes xx

What products are you currently using and what's your diet like? Both can affect skin massively.
I know how you feel as I've suffered from acne for 10 years, ranging from mild to pretty horrible. I've been on roaccutane and that made a massive difference but now I'm off it I still get some spots (not as bad). Have you tried using a tea tree gel or drying product like salicylic acid/benzoyl peroxide to stop the infections spreading?
I've been on antibiotics and various other things and they tend to have a 3 month max effect. Still worth trying though, especially if you're on hols soon! :) Just explain to your doc how miserable they make you and they'll be understanding, don't worry.
Good luck

hi becka thanks for ur reply! I was using the csr off www.acne.org which is using bp i stuck to it for a couple of months but then got fed up of using it and still had clogged pores and made my red marks worse and take ages to go so thought i would try salycic acid products so im using garnier pure zone range.
My diet is pretty good i have a balanced diet and try to drink quite a bit of water and drink green tea sometimes. I dont think it is affected by diet for me.
It is probably bad at the mo becuase i have been going on and off the pill, switched from bp to sa and also had tonsilillitos last week so have been quite run down.
Anyway i just want something that will sort it out and so i guessed some sort of antibiotics or some cream from the docs would sort it out until at least after my hols.
Sorry to go on but do u think that if i go on to antibiotics ir will make my skin worse in the long run? Thanks xx
