Question:
Whats the difference between acne & spots
Im confused, i wouldnt say that i am suffering with acne  just alot of spots and more than normal
What do you determine as acne
I am not an expert here but spots come and go. You might get one or two but then they go away, until the next time. Acne comes and stays - either all over your face or around your mouth for example. As time goes by your skin has spots and scars and discolourations from old spots. Acne rosacea is constant spots and redness, made worse by coffee, spicy food and weather. Cystic acne is when you get those huge huge sore bumpy spots.
One definition is if you have more than 10 spots on your face at any one time then it's acne, but to me this is a bit stupid! :)
'Acne' is a dirty word (I know, I've had it for years  ) but I really do think that if you're suffering from bouts of spots that don't seem to want to go, and they're not reaction spots (those tiny ones you get when you react badly to something), then you've got acne. Some people have it for years, some people have it for a month. Don't worry about labelling yourself though. Just go to the doc's if it's bothering you and get it sorted out.
I suffer from mild acne but that doesnt mean I have quite a few spots - its the type of spot that defines acne and the persistence of them.
Well thats what the dermatologist told me!
you know the scars and discolourations you get from old spots - do you think that as time goes by, after you stop getting spots, these will fade? because i'm starting to get a handle on my outbreaks now but still have lots of red marks left on my cheeks and around my mouth. also, anyone who suffered from acne as a teen - did it ever go away for you or do you still get spots now? because i'm 19 and wondering whether i'll be struggling with acne all my life :(
