Question:
Dry and spot prone skin
Hi,
I was in Liberty's today and spoke to a couple of nice SAs in the beauty hall...
I have (what I thought to be) dry and spot prone skin, however the SAs told me if you suffer from spots your skin must be producing oil and so the skin can't be dry. They said my skin was actually dehydrated rather than being dry and so I should use products that are for normal to oily skin and possibly a booster product for the dehydrated areas.
The SA from Clinique suggested I use Moisture Surge Light ( a booster serum which will help dehydrated skin) on top of my moisturiser.
The SA from Kiehls suggested Calendula Herbal Extract Toner (for normal to oily skin) and Sodium PCA oil free moisturiser (normal to oily skin). I was given samples of these two to try! I was also given Abyssine cream (a moisturiser with vitamin C) for radiant skin. Im to use the Sodium PCA cream for 3 days and then the abyssine cream for 3 days after, to see which of the moisturisers is better.
So now Im going to try out these products and see if they help at all.... knowing I now have dehydrated skin rather than dry skin, this should hopefully help me find the right products for my skin!
I will give an update in a week to see if they have helped at all!
I also bought Angels from Lush, so this will be my cleanser as I try out these samples.

its not true - i have dry and spot prone skin, and having worked for a skincare company for several years i know its defo dry not dehydrated. I use a cream for normal to dry skin then a specific spot product where needed. I also have to exfoliate regularly because otherwise my skin goes flaky and that encourages more spots with the build up of skin
my skin always perks up when i start treating it with decleor rose d'orient range which is for sensitive skin as it moisturises without being to rich/greasy and isn't being harsh on my skin
then once its back to normal i use my guerlain products which are for normal sklin (with an extra serum underneath to stop the dryness)
reminding me of which i need to go back on the decleor as my skin is flaring up again!!
if you can get Dalacin T from your doctors it is very good for spots - always moisturise afterwards to prevent your skin from drying out because of the alcohol
I guess it must just be my skin thats dehydrated then. As long as I find something that works I'll be glad! hehe

Any type of skin can suffer from spots. For your skin I would look st St ives radiance cleansers and garnier fresh range. Tea tree oil is good to put on the skin to beat spots.
St ives radiance cleansers cleanse the skin without overdrying it.
Garnier fresh moisturiser cleanses the skin and is for normal and combination skin.
tea tree oil diluted can be bought in superdrug or bodyshop.
Thanks Diane,
I did previously use St Ives about 2 years ago but it didnt help my spots, just dried out my skin... but I may try the one you have suggested as I cant remember the exact st ives face wash I used.
I find that most products for spots just dry my skin out and Ive found nothing effective ... so these samples I got from Kiehls are worth a try!
