Question:
not natural enough
Hi, was wondering whether anyone else had this problem.
No mattter how I try I always think that my founbdation looks noticeable and not natural. I tend to get dry areas of skin around my nose and forehead which show up my make up. Plus I am really pale so feel as if maybe I put more on to try and cover this up. I dread holidays etc b/c I dont really like sunbathing as Im wary of the effects etc but at the same time dont want to look deathly pale and ill!!!! help!
Have you tried going to a make-up counter and asking for advice on foundation colour and type? I did this at No.7 this week as i usually have the problem you describe with skin looking dry and colour being too dark. I am very pleased with the recommendation i was given :)

Hi Cute Monkey-love the name by the way!
I was exactly the same as you with regards any foundation feeling too heavy and noticable, and like you I am really pale, so it means anything shows up really easily, doesn't it
The one foundation I've tried that looked like it was actually my skin (albeit, an airbrushed version of my skin ;) ) was Chanel Pro Lumiere in the shade Limpide.
It was beautiful, felt so light, and made my skin look dewy and like porecelain-and it wasn't at all noticable/visible.
There were some threads started about this foundation last month, if you'd like more info?

Hope that helps?

You shouldn't feel like you need to layer on more foundation because you're pale. Embrace your paleness :) You'd be better using a very thin layer and warming your skin up with bronzer or blusher.
Re. the dry skin - do you exfoliate and use a good moisturiser? I get these scaly patches sometimes but since I've got MAC scrub mask I don't tend to get them. It's really good for buffing the skin up and leaving it smooth for foundation. Using a brush to apply your base is also a good idea...I've started doing this recently and noticed a massive difference!
If you're finding that most foundations are too dark for you, go along to a counter such as MAC or Prescriptives where they do a bigger range of colours.
Using foundation to change the colour of your skin is one of the biggest beauty no-no's, sorry :) If you're very unhappy with your skintone then why not try a light fake tan and see how you get on with that? But remember to alter your foundation shade as appropriate!
What about a tinted moisturiser?
This might help with the colour/naturalness (is that a word?) and dry skin.
I also second the pro lumiere. I've been using a sample of this in clair, and i didn't get on too well with it to start - but i'm finding i don't want to go without it now!
Also, I went to an Estee Lauder counter when i was wearing it as they were doing foundation consultations, and she said that she thought my skin was good enough to go without a foundation - RESULT :yay:
(if only she knew the truth which is that my skin is pale, with a tendency to be blotchy, with spots, scars - you name it...)
