Question:
Tipping at beauty salons?
Following on from a thread by emsie, I'm just wondering is it 'expected' that you tip for treatment at beauty salons?
I'm currently going through a course of electrolysis (weekly sessions since January) and it's working out to be quite expensive. I can barely afford it in the first place and haven't tipped once :o That said, I always tip at the hairdressers  What does everyone else do???
Generally, I tip 10% e.g. for a massage. If I was going weekly I wouldn't though - as you say, you're already spending a packet.
I simply can't afford to tip my hairdresser and she has so many celebs I suspect she earns way more than I do. I give her a bottle of champagne every Christmas however.
I far prefer salons to have pots for each therapist on the counter or little envelopes so one is spared pressing coins into their hands.
