My friend had this done and her dentist charged about £350. She had some moulds made and had to wear them (with bleaching gel) for two weeks (I think).
It looks fab and now I want my done !

Well firstly - welcome to the board Kit    nice to have you here, and any problems, just PM one of the hosts.
I'm currently having my teeth whitened for the 3rd time (jammily I get them done for free with my dad being a dentist! )
I use Opalescence SP Plus, you have little moulds made, and apply the gel from little syringes. The dentist dhould have your moulds made, and then supply you with 20 syringes, one a day!
Although I found I don'T use an entire syringe a night, so you can really sue it until they've finished.
this link just has a bit more info on them.

If you go for home bleaching I would also recommend trying to get hold of some GC tooth mousse - it's expensive but stop the sensitising of your teeth amazingly well!

you have to scroll down - but it is there!

Hello and welcome Classy Kit!
I'm afraid I can't help you regarding getting teeth whitening professionally, but I thought I'd recommend a fantastic tooth paste that really does whiten teeth.
It's been the subject of a few threads on the board; It's Janina Diamond Whitening toothpaste.
It retails at £9.99 in Boots, but lasts for ages, so it works out as good value for money.
Immediately after the first use, I noticed that my teeth looked whiter.
There's some more recs for it in this thread
